Anyone here a cyclist?

What is everyone using for a cycling app these days? Anything decent that is free?

I was using the Samsung Health one that comes on the phone but after the last update it no longer tracks anything useful. I am looking for something that tracks distance, route (via phone GPS) and some minor stats like average speed, max speed, climbing vertical. Just for my tracking.
I can't directly help you. My wifes bike still uses an old school bike computer. She has a garmin watch if she wants something more detailed. I use garmin edge on the bike. It's better than the watches (but still not as good as the old B&W edges).

On the things getting abandoned, I used to love an osx app called Ascent. I would happily pay for it again (especially if not OSX). Developer disappeared sadly. It was aweseome.

Decathlon sells a
-wired bike computer that uses the wheel rotation
-wireless bike computer that uses the wheel rotation
-gps bike computer that isn't that much more expensive

I use a garmin edge which does everything i need it to
I also have a garmin watch (forerunner 745) if i dont feel like busting out the bike computer

Haven't used my phone in ages due to battery and not wanting the vibrations to mess up my image stabilization

I should add, currently running five different bikes so it needs to move between them "effortlessly"... that's where the phone excelled as it is in my pocket anyways.

I don't care so much about real time, just tracking and review afterwards.

Perfect timing for a thread revival...in order, how would you rank the following brands: Giant, Specialized, Cannondale? We currently have entry level Giant ATX mountain bikes, but since we're really enjoying it, we want to get better units...possibly even looking at hybrids...I know each brand has their low and high end bikes, but to compare apples to apples, how would you rate the brands I mentioned? TIA :D

My Samsung health updated just today and I used it for our ride through Aquitaine Lake...it still tracked distance, average speed, workout calories, elevation gain, workout duration and total duration...it still does the map as well and breaks down the laps (break it down either by 1km, 5km or 10km increments) :D

I would not care between those brands. Like not at all. Fit matters the most. Find bikes that fit you properly and don't worry what brand is painted on the downtube.

It is of course not as simple as brand but specific models between brands as they all have a range and you have to look at fit, component levels etc.. Having said that... and there will be some chevy vs ford in all this.

Cannondale is not what they used to be but not garbage either IMO. They are part of whatever Dorel's cycling became.
Giant is a huge maker and they make a big range of products, I have had good experience owning and fixing for friends
Specialized, some here will have strong feelings on this one, but the ones I have worked on for friends I have no complaints, they also seem to like them.

The ability of the shop to have sizes and proper fit, etc. is likely much more important.

Thanks, it may have locked me out because I did not consent to their new data farming. I will give it a shot again on my next ride.

Sorry to hear that @Mikedezo44 hopefully no major injuries or damage.

Unfortunately if you didn’t give your info it could be classified as a hit and run, regardless of the legality of the scooter riding in Toronto. It’s illegal, but so is making contact with a pedestrian / rider and then taking off.

Doubtful it’ll go much further, but some people are *** and can chase a potential windfall.

Thanks. Happened so fast. I was scared if I made a rash direction change, he could've made same direction change and with the speed he was going it would have been much much worse. Arm is pretty sore but should get better in next couple of days I'm hoping.

Good to know it is illegal to ride them, that will make me sleep a little better about hearing from him.

Clear as day.

Can't make it any clearer i think LOL

Sorry you went through that, most of them go about 30km/h (if not modified). Some dude was telling me it might fluctuate (25 to 30) depending on weight, wind, pavement etc.

Where on the waterfront were you? Queens quay? It's quite the crazy mix of users on that path, runners, escooters, bicycles, even dog and their owners sometimes. Full of hazards all over the place!
And then add to that the people crossing from the street to get to the sidewalk without looking up and with their headphones so ringing your bell does nothing.

Since we're back on thread revivals....I have a 'road' cheap bike that I find fairly good, but not as comfortable as my heavy mountain bike.

Worth to replace the 'mountain' bike tires with more road focused tires? As my project at home wraps up slowly, I'd like to do some more activities outside of running up/down a scaffold and weight lifting in the house.

Stupid me didn't buy the bike that @Jampy00 was selling as that was a sweet bike.

What is the tire replacement supposed to accomplish? Part of the comfort of the mtb is the big squishy tires. What size wheels on the mtb?

I'll check tire size later, but switch would be to go for smoother ride over the bumpy 'grippier' off road tires.

I care more about wheel size than tire size. If it has 29" wheels, 700c x 28mm (or 32mm) make it a lot faster and more nimble on the road. 26" wheels substantially limit your tire choices.
