Anyone have any experience riding the Yamaha fz-09?

Embrace the orange and post a pic of your bike!

I bought my bike from Brampton Powersports too and they were so easy to deal with.

And send a PM to Paul to get your username changed too - it's like a fresh start on life!

I can get my user name changed?!?!?! Amazing! That'll teach me to make such a specific username in the future lol

I ride a Yamaha and a Suzuki and look at my handle, who cares

I went with heavier springs and a piston kit up front (http://www.stoltecmoto.com/shop/yamaha/fz-09/14-fz-09-fork-piston-kit-service/) and there is a suspension shop in the states that re-valves and re-springs the stock rear shock for a great price (NorWest on the FZ09 board).

I had racetech gold valves and springs and an Ohlins rear in my FZ1 and I was surprised that the stock fz09 suspension was nowhere near as "deadly" as the internet makes it out to be, I am about 185 lbs for reference. I have the updated yamaha 2015 flash and it's fine.

I've transferred some other nice bits off the FZ1 and like the others I absolutely love the 09. I just designed a plate for a luggage rack that I am having laser cut by a local shop but does anyone know someone who does cheap anodizing by chance? I may just get it powder coated at total coatings as they have always been great.

awesome thread. I ride 08 zx6r as well and was thinking to get FZ09 either this year or next. :p

I like the factory rack on these bikes, four bolts and two minutes later it goes from hooligan to sport touring bike.

for front springs Stoltecmoto is the go to!

I have a strong negative opinion about redoing the piece of crap rear shock but others don't so I'll let it be lol.

I'd love to hear it, even if it's in a PM. Either the stock shock re-do or an ZX6 shock would only be temporary for me until I slap on a Elka or Penske.

Yep that's a good rack for sure but I am mainly going to use mine for soft luggage (strapping a backpack) or mounting a Pelican case. I am using the shad arms (that bolt in the same spot as the factory rack) but I just made a custom top plate that will work for my needs instead of using their top box base plate that their rack is designed for.

oops, meant to quote Jayv

I don't have any data to back what I am saying, but after holding both shocks (the stock and the ZX6R) I wouldn't waste a penny trying to make the stock one better when for a very low cost, I can purchase and install a ZX6R rear shock. The stock shock is like one of those cheap Chinese parts that when you hold them you just know they are made of crap.

Again here is the FZ09 I removed and the ZX6r I installed - guess which is the FZ09 :)

05/06 636 rear shock, the 05/06 zx6RR is a better fit but it is impossible to find one - I got 0.95 for the front, stock comes with 0.75.

Thanks. I'm gonna start searching. KJM posted a great link.

Sometimes or always it's more fun to ride around deficiencies to bettor highlight your skillz unless the result is centre punching large inanimate objects. You're damned if you do or damned if you don't.

Unfortunately suspension is not something you want to ride around, it will put you on your ass real quick and then gets way more expensive.
