Whatchya workin' on?

Anyone?

Even projects are covid priced right now...

Any basket-case bikes?

I picked up a gsxr600 off a co-worker (in much worse shape than she said...)

Paid too much.

I guess because I wouldn't sell junk to a friend, I assumed neither would she.

Nothing I can't fix, but condition and km should dictate price... and I paid too much.

Anyways:

'07 gsxr600
45,000k (she told me it had 30,000...)
Tires are 8 years old.
Chain and sprockets are done.
Missing fasteners.
Dent in tank (I wanted ugly. I'm okay with that).
Bodged wiring.
Lightly crashed on the right side. Rearset bent. A bit of fairing rash.

Rear brake rotor bent.
Overfilled with oil (I hope it wasn't so the oil pick-up doesnt starve the engine in prolonged wheelies.) Hopefully its just a maintenance dumb p.o.

I know I'll find more issues.

I have the front end off right now.

Cut the kinky chain off almost immediately.

New rear 520 sprocket.

Making a list of missing bits.

Are you putting in a stupid freestanding tub as art? They are so much money and used approximately zero times by most people but are still expected by many buyers. Freestanding tubs will be the new corner tubs in a few years.

V-Star 650 rolling chassis with a clean title + 1/4 ev bus battery + 12KW hub motor from china

No pics on the computer yet to share
That sounds like an awesome project! Definitely looking forward to progress pics / reports.

Lol.... Of course...!!

It'll replace the equally never used soaker tub we have now.
Well, It's not completely unused... The cat hangs out in it once in awhile.

lots of work.

Almost done building the battery now. still need to make a battery enclosure, modify the rear swingarm, literally mount and wire everything, modify front axle to take a harley rim (otherwise I would have had a 17" rear hub motor and 16"front), find some front and rear brakes to fit, all handlebar controls, lights, fenders etc. and then dismantle it all to be painted/polished.

Hoping to have at least something drivable by summer. maybe insured on the road by the end of next year depending on how many home renos I can procrastinate.

Way beyond my scope of ability but definitely looking forward to your progress. Good luck and please keep a report or progress report.

how much you pick up the gsxr for if you don't mind sharing? looks decent for under 3500 imo

I bought an 87 Honda Hurricane/CBR600F. Was told it needed a carb rebuild, boots, battery and tires. I have heard it start with starter fluid in the carbs.

I am NOT mechanically inclined. I bought it with the hopes of getting it running, but knowing that even if that never happened, I will still have hopefully had some fun, learned something about mechanics, and be better able to maintain my own bike. In the last few weeks I have studied the shop manual and the Haynes/Clymer guides for the bike for hours, and learned something about carbs and how to them apart and and put them back together again. Rebuild kit and new boots have arrived.

Now looking for an affordable ultrasonic cleaner, ideally big enough for a rack of carbs, or Chem-Dip locally in the GTA.

Sounds like a fun project. Good luck.

An ultrasonic cleaner big enough for a rack of carbs will not be all that affordable. That's a really big tank.

we have totally unused free standing tub complete with $1500 worth of free standing filler pipes LOL , wife uses tub in spare bathroom

This winter is a remodel of the workshop, moving into this house I took the family room as a workshop, it has a gas fireplace and french doors to the back yard but woefully under wired. Needs dedicated 20amp plugs and improved dust extraction. I like it has its own shower and crapper right next to it, no running upstairs to dump. I put in vinyl plank floor last yr which was a failure, seams open up when you roll 1000lb tools over it. Looking for options, standing on concrete will not work

Does the floor need to look good or just function well? I am partial to mats like the picture below. Easy to reorganize if you want, allow debris to drop out of the way and to clean up, you move the mats and vaccuum/sweep/blow a bare floor.

Horse stall mats give you some cushioning and a flat floor. Smell bad for quite a while as they offgas. I'm not sure if sawdust migrating through the seams would be an issue or not.

Buying a vehicle that will suit my wife's needs better. Tacoma is way too high. Civic is too low. She has a folding electric wheelchair that goes into the civics trunk easily. Her mobility isn't so bad that we need a caravan with side entry. A Google search comes up with Kia Soul,Camry,Sonata and Passat.A friend is being a new Camry over on Fri to try.
I'm going to take my time.

Mazda 5? Sliding rear doors can make things easier.

I dont think a passat is a good choice for most people. I have owned a lot of VW's but not a passat. The maintenance on that one scares me away.

BIL has a soul. Cool looking car on the outside. Not that much space on the inside.

Those cars were chosen for the taller door frame and shorter for sill.NO,i wouldn't touch a VW with a 3m pole.

Long shot, ioniq 5?

From pics form factor looks right (other than the stupid sloped rear glass that burns half the cargo space). No more wasting time and money on maintaining an ice vehicle.

Nothing interesting but I want to put chair rail in my upstairs hallway, but the door casing is original to the house and I want to replace it, so that will have to go first before the chair rail goes in. I also want to replace a ceiling fan and some of the boob lights in the house.

Believe me... I've tried to convince Mrs. Hack that the tub is not necessary.
All you long married guys will understand the futility in such an undertaking.
I hope the cat will enjoy her new tub
