Anyone have a second bike they wouldn't mind lending me for a few hours to do my M road test?

Hey guys,

Would anyone in the downtownish Toronto area happen to have a second bike maybe lying around or thats not being ridden daily they wouldn't mind lending me to do my M road test? My bike's currently not running... and I'm trying to fix it myself. I haven't taken it to a shop yet because I've been working so much + in school that I really am not in a rush since my time to ride would be minimal at best. With that said, I'd really like to complete my full M this summer if possible and I don't know too many riders who have spare bikes (none of which who are comfortable lending me their babies, which I understand).

I don't mind placing a deposit, and leaving the keys to my bike + a copy of my D license or insurance or whatever it is that would make you feel more comfortable. Wouldn't mind buying you some beer, pizza and a full tank as well for your kindness.

If that's of any interest to anyone please PM me!

Also, I haven't set a confirmed date for my test yet because I had to move my first slot this early July. What I'd like to do is find a date that's decently in advance, and that way I can propose to whoever is willing, a date & time they're okay with.

Worse case scenario, I'll book far in advance and make sure I can rent a bike for that day.

ayways, any ideas or offers are appreciated!

I wish you luck but it's a tough ask. They're also lending you their insurance and this could cost them thousands to be helpful. GTAExotics has little bikes for $170 a day that would be great for a test. Not sure on restrictions though.

One of my friends wives is in China till October, he needs to borrow a wife/gf for an upcoming camping weekend. If you can help him out I’m sure he loan you his bike while he’s away camping.

used to be listings on kijiji for daily bike rentals
they were 250's and 300's mostly in Brampton
liability extends to the plate holder
what could go wrong?

I suspect the MTO will be onto that scheme and ask for ownership/arrangement with owner and you may not even get to start your test if they don't like your answers.

you don't have to be the owner, it just has to be insured, road worthy and have the registration.

Yes, but renting a bike from someone with typical insurance voids the insurance so if they suspect it was rented, they can deny the test as you can't prove you have valid insurance. Borrowing a bike from someone is fine, renting it is no good. If you rent, you need your name as an authorized rider on rental paperwork (and insurance that covers a rented vehicle).

I have loaned two bikes to friends for taking the m test. Neither one had or caused me any trouble. Gave them the paperwork to prove insurance. Since I wasn’t renting it for profit no problem. Second one was my car mechanic so free oiled change on bike and truck.

Drive test are not the ones to decide what policy is void or not. I agree with your deduction but they have zero business making that call, IMO. I doubt there is onus to provide commercial insurance. I would be surprised to learn they even ask.

They do ask. I have seen an examiner say that they think insurance is not valid so they will not conduct the test. No idea about official policy but if the examiner says it's not happening, you are hosed for the day. There is no way to get that decision overturned in time.

Colour me surprised!

I would be very interested to know just how much authority they have, policy doesn’t trump your rights and I don’t believe drive test is a private business.
