Anyone get stopped in Oakville today at the spot check for exhausts ?

conditions?

to my knowledge, depending on the municipality they only need suspicion to pull you over and administer the test.
Don't know how long you've been riding in the area, But back a few yrs ago they tried this in caledon, mainly the forks. It was a hard time proving because of the conditions the test was administered, Had to be so far a way from obstructions of buildings and a few other procedures that had to be met

understood.

no i don't spend much time over there, too much heat score.

gotcha.

Probably has no bearing on the noise test.
Acutally it is a factory replacement . So the slip ons meet all manufacturers parameters . So if stock passes so will these .

Oakville has a motorcycle noise level bylaw: Excessive Motorcycle Noise

This should have been a dB check. Nothing to do with original equipment or aftermarket or EPA-marked or anything else. If too loud, fail. If below the allowed limit, pass. (And that, conceptually, is as it should be.)
I worked for the Town and was around for that new bylaw. It complimented the previous anti-lawnmower noise bylaw version...lol

As I recall the origin of the by-law came about as a result of a group of bikers at the Tim's located on Lakeshore road, just west of Kerr St. Some guys let loose with their bikes in the midst of a few condos full of old folks. That's all it took.

Goes back to the old adage....that it takes a small number of asshats to ruin it for the rest of us.

Friend of ours has a bf that his VROD got a ticket at the forks. Can’t remember the details but it wasn’t cheap.

Hamilton area has been a hotspot for this problem for decades. The SC gave the city a hard time back in the 60's and 70's.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone in a fartcan equipped car got pulled over and ticketed. I find those more annoying than some bikes that might fail the test.

Sadly, most of the by-laws are motorcycle specific and do not apply to cars. There are a few municipalities that have stepped up noise enforcement on cars but it is often old-school compliance checks (eg look for muffler) not a sound level measurement. As others have said, a small percentage of bikers were selfish ***** and we all get to deal with the fallout from their bad behaviour.

I'm not the tinfoil hat type but I'm thinking that all laws will be enforces strictly in the coming years. Gotta pay back that COVID debt somehow.
Agreed. Every level of govt will be scrambling for cash. Expect more red light and photo radar everywhere as well as easy pickings on tickets/infractions. Gotta make up that shortfall.

Pinning it to the rev limiter in the Timmy's parking lot is not a way to win friends and influence people.
Well you did influence people. A lot of residents hate you and a lot of bikers (rightfully) blame you for the crackdown. Lots of influence, few friends (the rest of team dbag still loves ya brah).

Oakville taxpayers pay the police force , buy a 3 million condo and have some dude rev bomb the Tims parking lot to the point your plate glass windows with a view of the lake shakes?? Yup you phone your councillor, he calls Rob ( our mayor) and he calls the Chief and the troopers start checking exhaust.
They did a car blitz last week or so and towed a few. Its not bike specific, its idiot specific.

You can cruise Lakeshore like they have for decades, its nice enough, but lakeshore houses are in the millions and property taxes are often 15-20k . that buys you some peace and quiet.

The tickets may get tossed, but you still get to go through the effort of the appeal , taking your day in court, maybe you hire a paralegal. I think it may be easier to just not get that ticket.

I'll be the first to admit. My bike is loud and can be REALLY loud if I rode it like an idiot. I ride with respect to my surroundings. What I typically hear (when I am at home) is the baggers with radio's and the sport bikes and cars all hitting the redline at different times of the day/night. To be fair never really bothered me but I am sure in some area's it can get very bad.

I live about 2kms from the DVP. The rev bombers at 3am are tedious.

loud pipes risk rights

Yup it really is that simple. When the cruisers (and other idiots- ss, big truck knobs, etc) blow by the house flatuating I can't help but think big sound to compensate for a little dick.

I thought it was only me.
I live not too far away from the Steeles / Albion area and almost every other night when the temps are above 15C you can hear 4 cylinder bikes racing across...12am - 3ish something seems to be their regular time)

That's what irks me - why go after (generally) docile riders during the day when the real 'culprits' remain unaffected?
Same goes for vehicles too.

Not uncommon to see some high end German luxury vehicle speeding (160km/hr+) and dodging in/out of traffic at night while some middle aged poor fellow in a Toyota gets pulled over for 20 over on the highway lol.

It would seem to be an easy grab - are all the gendarmes in Timmy's at that hour ?
