Anyone do the laser eye thing?

Intraocular lens replacement went well yesterday. Took about 20 min total. Very bizarre procedure. Conscious all thru it.i could see the cataracts being broken up and and pulled out, my lens being pulled out and then the artificial ones inserted.

That's like a horror movie scene ... cringe.

Let us know how it's going for you as this is on my radar.

Two days post op. Day of surgery couldn't see f all. Yesterday much better, but couldn't read much. Today is AWESOME. Any and all fine print is easy.I can even read the fine print on all 8 bottles of eye drops.( Durezol stings like a sob.)
One month of drops.
Still looking for my glasses like i still put my foot down at a stop on the Ural.

Did you do the bifocal lens?
If not, the up close clarity will be short lived.
That was the worst part for me.

Can't read this

eyeballs are the only thing that make me queasy.
I've got stories:
Detached retina
Cataract surgery
Laser surgery (to fine tune the cataract surgery)
SIXTEEN injections in my eye....

When I had lasik, it was awesome after they cut the flap with the microkeratome. Like a laser light show inside your eyes as you obviously have zero ability to focus for a short time.
When I had my injections done, it was the absolute trippiest (is that a word ?)thing:
The fluid was injected and you could see it float by BEHIND your vision.
This is something that I have the most difficult time explaining to people.

I may have to revisit this.

I have a new pair of glasses arriving today and I’m hoping they’re better than the progressives I’ve been wearing for the last year where I’ve never been happy with the up-close magnification for things like my cellphone.

I wore trifocals since about age 45. Cataracts are the best thing that ever happened to me.

I got my first pair of MultiVision lenses around 40, that’s when I really started to notice my vision going downhill at a more rapid pace as was not totally unexpected at that age. It seems to have mostly stabilized however I have a drastic difference between near and far vision now.

Like I said, my ultimate deciding factor would be if I still need glasses for distance or near vision even after surgical correction. If I’m still going to have to carry a pair of regularly then I’m out, that would be more of a irritant/pain in the ass for me then just wearing glasses all day every day would be.

Following. Just got my first pair of glasses because I have the start of a cataract in my left eye. Have to go back in 18 months to be rechecked.
First glasses at 70? Yeah I can live with that.

The only drawback was the cost. $3995/eye.

It is what it is but yeah I’m sure it’s not affordable for all. I’m sure it can be written off on taxes to an extent somehow?

But if it could mean I’d finally escape eyeglasses after ~50 years, I’d seriously consider it. I just have this underlying fear in the back of my head however that I’d be one of those small percentages where it goes bad - I’m the poster boy for Murphys law sometimes.

When I had lasik, it was a qualifying medical expensive. Using WB's 8K expense, the first $2600 doesn't count and IIRC you multiply the remainder ($5400) x15% ($810) so you deduct 810 from your income and save about $400 in tax. Wee. Don't spend it all in one place. Better than nothing but not enough to affect financial viability of the operation.
