anyone buying ps4 or xbox one

All my free (both to play and download) Steam games have all those things, too...

My friend tells me he has to pay for xbox live to watch Netflix on his xbox. That makes no sense to me.

What steam games have free servers? Some allow for local matchmaking, but not all.

I thought the PS4 was built to play all games from Ps1 to Ps3?

And originally i thought that online play was to remain free, as its a huge selling point unlike Xbox.

Ill be keeping my Ps3 for this year, and waiting for backwards compatibility than.

There will be no backwards compatibility. This is of course to keep costs low. $399 for a launch system is pretty damn cheap considering PS3's launch price was (if i'm not mistaken) $699?

And I believe to play online, you need a PSN subscription now. Anything else such as Netflix will still be free.

Dota2 and Planetside for a couple. I don't play many. Never bothered to connect any of my consoles to the Internet, either.

I have kept every game that I bought so that means I will be keeping my older systems because I really don't want to get rid of my collection & there are quite a few games that I go back & play, now I will start on a new system collection lol!

Here is my collection of games for all the previous systems, total is up to 520 games...

I'd do the same but my TV is HDMI only and my PS2 finally bit the dust after repairing it 3 times. All my games for it were pirated though, heh.

So worth it! I still have all my old stuff and I can't bare to sell my old consoles and games. I still have an old Sony Trinatron for my old systems and I still go back to it offten. Usually to play Road Rash on my 3DO :D

I have a pre-order day one Xbox and the new Forza day one also. Might just grab the game and wait for the price drop. The reason Xbox is $100 more I am told is due to the connect features.

it's because of the Kinect packaged with the system.

The PS4 Eye doesn't come with the system, but it's still cheaper even if you were to factor that in with PS4 purchase.

I will be buying a PS4 on opening day, or as soon as they have it in stock at best buy and I can just walk in and get one. Looks like there are some amazing games coming out for the PS4 on release day or shortly after, lots of open world games which are my favourites.

A shame that it will cost money to play online now for a PS4, that was a feature I liked with the PS3, no fees. I am not a hard core gamer, I play off and on and it is just not worth it to me to pay to play every now and then online.

Ya it's a small fee but will ensure better online play. That's the only thing Xbox had over sony.

Will PSN still be free for PS3 users?

The free PSN is one of the few things keeping me on a PS. Not that I'm a "gamer" I haven't touched my PS3 in 5 or 6 months now. I'll probably start playing it over the winter, but mostly just granturismo... I'm assuming they have a new version of that game for the PS4?

Are controllers backward compatible? I have a good steering wheel for my PS3 that I would like to be able to keep using if I ever got a PS4

Yes GT6 will be a launch title for PS4 and yes, any blue tooth device that works with PS3 will work with PS4. It will also most likely need a patch update to be compatible with older console technology such as the G25/G27 steering wheels and later technology to support the hardware but I am sure they will as Polyphony uses G27/Driving Force GT for beta testing which are still in production.

PS3 will remain free online until they shut down the servers, which is probably around the time they stop producing games for it. PS2 and Xbox Original still have online services and servers available. (Which I find surprising tbh)

They shut down all servers for the original Xbox years ago.

Game remastering sometimes means changes. One awesome Dreamcast game "Jet Grind Radio" doesn't have the same audio in its entirety because of rights so they substituted. Movie and TV reissues have this problem too with audio.

PS4 removed the mediaserver DLNA streaming feature. What this was, was to have your computer or whatever stream video to the PS3 to have it display on screen. Reasons why you'd want to do this is because of .mkvs and other file formats as well as putting on subtitles. For the most part subtitles only showed on divx avi with the PS3 and only because it is part of the standard. Except the groups switched to different formats. Sony is not good with subtitles, I've never seen anything in their store for rent or purchase with subtitles available. Might change now but we'll see.

Making people pay for PSN could be a non-starter for some people. We have tried PSN+ here and didn't keep it because why bother. It's only worth it if you're constantly buying new stuff. However the regular PSN, the child here is on it all the time playing Little Big Planet and then Little Big Planet 2. Apparently the create mode is the business. People like to shout at each other and build weird stuff together. That would be harder if you had to also pay for network connectivity because it keeps adding up. Internet, Netflix, DNS redirection, and now "game stuff"? Some folks might say whatever kid, you don't need it. Except they do. LBP2 can keep a kid occupied and out of your hair for years. That's nothing to sneeze at.

I'll also add to that, graphics remastering can sometimes change the quirky charm of the original and as a result it gets a different "feel".

It depends on the game, but some games "improving" the graphics is a risk because it is a creative decision.

I didn't pre order, but I plan on getting the Xbox One. All of the features going into the Xbox and making it more than just a console are awesome! Sure you pay $100 more. For some I can see this being a big selling point, but it isn't much for what you're going to buy.

As for the online cost (Per year...) If you can't afford to pay $60 a year to play games, you might want to re-think where your money is going. Sure PSN was free and look what that did. Credit Card info stolen, sure... I'll buy a PS in a heart beat... Or not.

I've been an Xbox guy since they first came out. Never liked the controller for PS personally, but to each their own.

Since most games come out for basically everything it seems, it really comes down to what is the most exclusive game that I have to play. I've seen nothing for the PS that seems worth while to me as of yet. Titanfall looks amazing to me and this is one game I look forward to getting. Since Titanfall comes out next year, this is why I'm waiting for that game to be released to purchase a new console. Maybe get a Titanfall bundle?

But for now my 360 gets used once and a while when I have the urge to play some GTA5. I'd imagine that my 360 will get turned on more since the cold is here to stay it looks like.

PS3 has a lot of juice left in it, problem is developers are lazy. Video gaming has gone to the same mentality as Hollywood, re-makes and add-ons with nothing new and ground breaking in along time. I think PS4 has what... 3 FPS games on launch? and then 2 kids games? What a joke.

Developers just want better hardware all the time, so they can just recycle the same game but make it look better. I prefer gameplay over graphics, too bad that thought process has escaped the gaming industry. I will say that The Last of Us was a pretty damn good game and story, even though it was your cookie cutter zombie / world infestation apocalypse back drop.

No, GT6 will not be a launch title for PS4 but will be released on PS3 in December.

Still unclear whether we can use our Wheel accessories for PS4.

They really need to hold a GT Academy for us Canadians. If only I was eligible for the US one :O

Does the PS2 even have a centralized online play system? I have the network adapter for mine, and it was a nearly useless accessory. (Bought in anticipation of GT4 having an online component ... which was scrapped). Only game that I ever connected to the internet with was NFS Underground 2 ... which I traded in for some reason. Probably after through the miracle of voice chat an 8 year old told me my car was gay.
