Anybody looking forward to the ski/snowboard season?

Any good deals on snowboards? I'm on the hunt for next season. Picked up a nice Spyder jacket from SportChek for 50% off. They still have a great selection (opposite Sherway Gardens)

Ill be on the hunt for next season, I was told to wait for the ski and snowboard show in november because they have good deals on boards they want to clear out

my ski gear is over 5 years old... i want new stuff but i cant justify it. nothing is torn or worn...the north face stuff has really held up! as for the skis...theyre heavy and ****** compared to the rentals id tried 2 years ago...but oh well.. until the kid starts (next year) i wont really budget for it.

lets pray that ski gods keep the hill cold enough tomorrow and sunday with some snowfall sunday night

Was out yesterday for the afternoon. The snow was the best it has been all season! The cold weather earlier in the week had the snow makers working for a good 48 hours leading up to Wednesday when the foot or so of new natural snow new snow fell on top of it. Get out there this weekend because the really warm weather coming this week will destroy these great conditions.

Thanks! I'll check that out.

I bought a brand new K2 snowboard and bindings for $150 bucks a couple of years ago off someone. Held up pretty well and I think I could sell it for the same today

Hopefully I can score a similar deal on a more flexible and higher end board. I can't see myself justifying $1K to ride down Blue Mountain, even if I do a couple of trips to Vermont/Tremblant.

^^ AWESOME!!

Whistler Feb 29 - Mar 4 was fantastic. Everyday we saw 20-30cm of snow, and all tracks were covered in the Alpine every morning... sadly, the day we flew out they got 90cm!!! I couldn't imagine that place with so much, as it was already fantastic.

Here we are hiking to the top of the Blackcomb Glacier bowl:

Oh man I am so insanely jealous. I remember riding the blackcomb bowl in waist deep powder back in '07. Never experienced that again since. Glad you had an awesome time out there!

Thanks! And big thanks to the media for spreading hype/fear about the Zica virus, forcing the wife to give up on sunny beach vacation plans, freeing up time & $$ for shredding!!

I'm gonna go wherever daught goes, next time... :p

I am still a novice.
To me it seems the weather locally is just not favorable. It's damn freezing/ice or by the time the nice stuff falls, it rains the next day or so.
It's pointless boarding on ice imo.

I am sorry to say but the conditions are not very favourable, not for just novices. Most of the season.
It is a matter take what you can get and make the most of it.
However, if you can ski/board in Ontario you can just about go anywhere with the skills you have obtained.

We're already talking about boarding? Man, summer is too short.

It's true our winter conditions suck but you can still get plenty of ski/boarding days in if you extend your acceptable weather policy to slightly more freezing temps.
I usually buy a couple of double-down passes at Blue, take a trip or two to QC/NY/VT and then pay regular lift fare for the remaining days.

Wow thats early for this thread.

And yeah as he said up here ^^^^, 1 or 2 double-downs and trip to QC (family there) or rent cottage around jay's peak and call it a day.

+ this year, we're buying a wagon so it'll be great for travelling with stuff

not interested in freezing, that's no fun
still a novice and way too much effort to go to the US or other province for a day or 2

thats the problem here, whether you get no snow. too much snow. freezing. melted snow. unless you get to take days off at any point in time, or you live in the area, the perfect days are usually somewhere midweek

The perfect days are always midweek! I haven't skied on a weekend in decades because it is far too busy and just not worth the cost to stand around in lift lines.

I don't know about that. I board mainly on weekends whether it's local or out of province. This past winter I experienced great conditions (for the east) almost every trip out. Granted, I think I got fairly lucky this year. But you can also do out of province trips in a weekend without taking weekdays off. It's a little tiring but doable. I go to Whiteface a lot because it's only 6 hours or so from Toronto.

I think once you get to an intermediate level you'll find you're more willing to make the trek out of province.

Next season definitely heading to Vermont I wanna use this season to sharpen up my skills and master the black Diamond at Blue Mountain. When I went from the blacks at mslm to blue it was a huge wake up call and I'm sure these are nothing compared to the other Hills out of the country so before I head out I wanna make sure I at least have these Hills down packed.
