Any Movement on Price

100%

I'm a little worried about buying this Maverick in today's economy....but I'd say my job is fairly recession proof...not completely...but well enough that it should be fine.
You`re good, they started digging near Eglington again! God help anyone who owns a home there, ay carumba.

Lots of people who bought RV's during Covid got into this situation - paying $45K in 2020 and 2021 during the peak of Covid for trailers that sold for $30K before Covid, and sell for $30K again today. And now they have a 4 year old trailer that is worth $20K whilst still owning $43K.

FB marketplace and RV trader etc is littered with people trying to sell RV's for more than what new ones sell for, not realizing they got hosed on covid pricing, are severly overpriced in an already flooded market, and will *never* get out from under it without eating a lot of the debt long term. On an asset which notoriously depreciates like a rock, at that.

In 2008 the US market was flooded with both fire sale prices on private sales as people dumped toys, but also repos. I bought our Jetskis from a guy in Michigan for basically 50% of what I'd have paid a few years earlier, with a brand new trailer at that.

"And this is why we don't finance depreciating assets."
- Grade 6 math teachers

"La la la, I can't hear you."
- Alleged grownups

Could be seeing a big uptick in the price of RVs as everyone decides to go camping instead of head to the US. A buddy just bought a trailer and the salesman was saying sales have been brisk.

Anyone buying new vs used right now is crazy IMHO. The market is absolutely flooded with barely used units that people camped in an handful of times during Covid, and some are willing to take a bath on price just to get out from under them.

The guy trying to sell your buddy something said they're flying off the shelves.

The guy trying to sell.

What's he going to say?! Here are your options:

a) "This is a terrible ******* investment."
b) "I've been applying to jobs for the last month because I can read the writing on the wall."
c) "I pretend to be really excited about your purchase, but that's only because I need the commission to pay my mortgage."
d) "I tell people like you things that I know will help you feel confirmation that they're making a really savvy decision, but deep down inside I think you're stupid."
e) "I feel inner guilt selling this to you because I know you're going to lose your shirt when you try to sell this thing."
f) "I've seen your credit score, I know you should probably be saving this money instead of spending it."

Ooooorrrrrrrrrr

g) "These things are flying off the shelves!"

I'm not saying there aren't ethical sales people out there. I was once, very briefly, a licensed sales person at a motorcycle dealership... and I hated every minute of selling to anyone who needed financing. I knew the decisions these people were making were not good for their financial future. For perspective, I was 23 years old and bought my own condo because I was all about making smart choices...

But if someone told me they want to buy the (expensive bike goes here), all I can do is point out a cheaper option once or twice before saying "OK cool let's do this! Congrats you're getting a great motorcycle bud!! These things are flying off the shelves!"

Indeed. The state of the RV industry has been terrible for the last few years. Very few dealers ordering much stock.

I think this comes down to “hurry up, someone else might buy it!” type pressure sales tactics more so than any actual heavy demand.

Could the uptick in new RV sales be related to the tariff situation?

Existing inventory isn't affected by the tariffs, just new product coming through the border. Could be everyone's buying stock before prices increase.

Our local Harley dealership just bought a few months of inventory all in one shot to bypass the tariffs before they were put in effect. There is literally no room to walk between the bikes on the floor now...

That whole industry is ass backwards and greasy AF.

I had an RV place sell me a used trailer that they took in on trade-in. I didn't know that they don't actually inspect the trade ins themselves until it's time to license them to the new owner.

Turns out they found something major was wrong and would lead them to losing money on the trailer at the price they sold it to me for. So these guys stalled for three months before I finally gave in and said, fine, just give me my deposit back and go to hell.

The next week they had it relisted with a whole new, much more expensive price. People buy a lot less RVs than cars, so the masses don't realize that used RV sales people are the twin of used car salesman... only the RV people are lot less regulated.

Even if Harley was offering fire sale prices and a attractive floor plan that dealer is one brave soul.

When we bought our class b new in 23 I was able to save 50g by shopping around I payed 78usd in new Mexico vs 150 cad here same van exactly. Canadian dealer were basically unwilling to move at all but warned what a huge mistake it would be to buy from the US. It's crazy the the same product can vary that much in pricing. Even in the US prices were all over the map.

Once something becomes easy it becomes a habit, wondering if folks bailing on America will become a habit

Got this from the video below. Lots of mortgages renewing each month since the middle of last year until the middle of 2027 that likely started at much lower rates during 2020-2021. As more and more renew at higher rates, expect to see more and more toys for sale, especially with rising delinquency rates. Next fall/winter should be a pretty good buyer's market. EDIT: Maybe for homes, too.
