Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It's actually illegal to rebadge a car if you're adding something that isn't true, eg replacing a tesla badge with an audi one. If the car is involved in a crime and someone who doesn't know cars well reports it based on the badge, now the cops are looking for the wrong car.
If it’s not enforced is it really illegal? I’m seeing more and more tinted plates so dark you can’t even read the plate unless you’re 5ft away.

Illegal…but no one cares.

Just checked it, and don't see anything specifically about badges, but I bet the cops would get you on the "false statement" like in section 12(1): Every person who, (d) uses or permits the use of a number plate upon a vehicle other than a number plate authorized for use on that vehicle;
(e) uses or permits the use of evidence of validation upon a number plate displayed on a motor vehicle other than evidence of validation furnished by the Ministry in respect of that motor vehicle; is guilty of an offence...
Those references are related to plate and validation. I don't think you'd have trouble beating the ticket if you added a badge. The plate was on the vehicle that it was authorized for. You could dress the vehicle up as a dinosaur and that would still not be a valid ticket. Validations are all dead now so section e is almost meaningless (conceivably you could still have an old fake sticker on a plate).

That actually is illegal. I expect police to start caring more about this as they lean more heavily on ALPR.

It wouldn't be illegal unless you were trying to commit some sort of fraud by doing it.
The paperwork is tied to the official make and model.. a lot of times the model name on paperwork, like ownership, doesn't match the model name badged on the car.
You can order vehicles without badging.
I had my evo badges changed to regular lancer badges. 330i badges on an M3, etc..

Everyone knows it's illegal...but no one cares. The only time I've heard of that charge being used is as an add-on.

Hell I got stopped near your place about 15 years ago with a CLEAR cover on my plates and the OPP officer decided to give me just a warning. And that plate was clear!

Fact is that those plate covers are sold all over the place (including Service Ontario), and no one actually cares.

I guess it's one of those things that's up to the officer to decide. I'm sure an officer having a bad day could say, your plate is registered to a tesla but I see you're driving an audi, here's a ticket.

I've heard of people getting ticketed for having a clear licence plate cover.

An officer can lay all sorts of BS tickets. JP should toss that one easily as it's clearly not an HTA violation. The plate is on the vehicle it was registered too. Present that paperwork in court and it's over for the prosecution. There is no requirement or law that prevents you from altering the appearance. Hell, you can body kit a corvette to make it look like a lamborghini and that is entirely legal as the vin matches the ownership and registered plate.
