Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I get the premise that it’s a trial and eventually was to run completely on its own (that’s highly doubtful now), but the specs (and safety, apparently) are pretty abysmal.

No functional seat belts (elsewhere it was pointed out that it has seat belts, but I maintain that because of their location and orientation, they serve only to allow a check-box on a checklist to be checked, not for much in the way of occupant protection). No driver's seat or normal controls. It has some coiled up contraption that is supposedly the operator's seat belt, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. Vehicle belongs in the crusher. It will probably spend a long time parked at a maintenance shop instead.

Tesla needs a hard kick in the balls. They obviously give a rats ass about safety. "Passenger play" my ass. If they had the cool screen that Audis use to have (or maybe still do?) where the driver and passenger see different content, that would be much more believable. I have no idea why Tesla is even poking the bull here? Just to see what they can get away with? How many Tesla drivers actually value this function?

Don’t ask questions you may not like the answer to. 😉
Interesting, that seems like something NHTSA could probably compel Tesla to provide. Tesla seems to track a hell of a lot to determine driver behaviour. How many miles have vehicles been driven with video games being played and right seat empty? That sets a floor. The real number will be higher.

Does the NHTSA actually have the nuts to go through with it though? Haven't they gone after Tesla before for something and then didn't go much further?

I wonder how many politicians/NHTSA execs own Tesla stock? The wall of protection around them continues to surprise me. Listening to NHTSA hearings, the board members themselves seem to have no issues lampooning when necessary.

Money is a powerful drug.

From those wacky pranksters that brought you the World Wife Carrying Championship, Air Guitar World Championship, and World Sauna Championships (RIP)....................

Up-close scrutiny of an early-production Rivian.

The trailing edge of a fender/door/other panel is commonly just a smidge higher than the leading edge of the panel behind it (e.g. the back edge of your front fender is a smidge higher than the front edge of the front door) ... helps with wind noise, because it avoids the airstream over the trailing edge of the front panel smacking directly into the leading edge of the panel behind. So, the door closure alignment that was mentioned, may be intentional.

I forgot to post the year-end stats for my Volt. Drove just under 15,000km last year (a little below my average, but...Covid) and somewhere in the range of 3000km or so of that was towing our camper.

Ended the year with a 2.1L/100KM average.

The towing really bell curved it upwards.

My f150 was written off recently and I have not gotten around to getting another truck...
I stumbled upon the new Ford Lightning...
Their all electric pickup....
I'm sorry... 370km range is NOT going to do it....
I mean it's a good looking truck... that front trunk storage would be cool to have but...
****... range and charging time suck...

For the cost of the lightning you could buy an ice truck and a plane.

The thing is, for most people, that's way more than enough.

The average driver drives less than 50km/day. That's why the Volt was designed with that range initially. And in general, it's true - 90% of the time I'm within that range on a daily basis.

I recognize for some a pickup truck gets used as more than a grocery getter, but the overwhelming majority of pickup truck buyers use them as...grocery getters.

There are those who need 500+km ranges, but in reality, 370 is more than enough for most. And much like Tesla, Ford is aiming for the boutique buyers here, not the rough-and-tumble people actually using pickup trucks for what they were actually designed for.

Yowza. Seem like the more ppl hate them, the more vehicles they sell. They must be really bad designs made only for boutiques....

Almost a million vehicles this year. 87% increase over last year....

I've never thought of myself as "rough and tumble".... I'm more "smooth and humble"...
In any case... I'll have to stick with vehicles that run on dinosaur juice for at least as long as the gooberment allows it.

My hybrid Camry only gets about 650 km now compared to 800s

How are your EVS doing

I’m still hovering around the 70-75km range. Once I hit the heat and highway the range just tanks immediately.

So I run the engine, heat the car up, then go back to EV until it’s cool again.

My wife is using it more often so def more gas is being used….but much less than her Odyssey.
