Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

The concept of a distance-following cruise control system, and a lane-keeping assistance system, and an automatic emergency-braking system, aren't necessarily bad things.

The bad thing about Tesla's system is that it doesn't do enough to at least make sure the driver is there and responding.
True, but humans really really suck at maintaining focus with nothing to do. The concept of helping them out is good but when the car tries to do everything so the human has to do nothing, we zone out. Maybe it would be better if the "autopilot" was intentionally detuned. When it intervenes, make it jerky and uncomfortable for the occupants. This sets it up to be clearly an assist to help you in a moment of inattention.

Or just get rid of autopilot. How were they allowed to even include that feature with all these issues creeping up?

What will it take for the authorities to say ‘turn it off in all the cars. It’s too dangerous, it’s not ready, and until you can prove it is turn it off.’

It seems like the regulators swallowed the "self-driving cars will save thousands of lives by eliminating driver error as a cause of collisions" line, and largely gave industry carte-blanche.
Also "made in america" probably helped a lot. Never underestimate the ability of regulators to approve a home-grown solution even if it may be smoke and mirrors.

Smoke is covered. Still working on the mirrors issues.

Im not convinced of the above.

Every article I read states that they will be running a modified versions WITH carbon brakes and other performance bits and likely set a remarkable record time.

Read this article. The driver even lifts off,. Perhaps to avoid overheating brakes or save battery

Get set for more 7 seconds lower Taycan owners to trade in their cars for a Plaid. 😂

we have components coming in that have allegedly been GP 12 - 100% checked before shipping them out. We’re still rejecting them for the same issue. The % is very low but my point is the checks are only as good as the person checking them.

I've been in a my share of manufacturing facilities over the years. A lot of the people on the QC lines look like they died inside weeks or months ago and are just going through the physical paces without any actual brain activity.

I don't say that in a bad way...I'd be exactly the same - I could not do that job, my brain would simply slip into neutral and I'd be physically looking at parts and not actually processing anything. People who can maintain that sort of focus on a detail oriented job that's as boring as that are a special breed.

There's also a lot of them who just DGAF because they're making minimum wage in a dead end job and they'd ditch the joint before the end of their shift if something paying 25c more an hour came up somewhere else.

Just hit a new record on the Volt….just over 3,000km on a single tank. And dropping my speed on the highway almost let me get home on a single charge. Will try again next time.
I assume I’m running on fumes with fuel as below 50km remaining it just says ‘LOW’.

Range at start of drive was 96km.

I’d be lying if I wasn’t tempted to pick up a Model 3 after seeing my buddys brand spanking new one on site.

If you're not one of the unlucky few that burn down, mass vehicle buybacks make for the lowest depreciating vehicles. My last car was an even trade for one four years newer with 100K km less. Bad for the manufacturers, good for the consumers.
Yup…buddy got a sweet additional 5k for his TDI VW. Way more than he would have otherwise.

I can’t justify the Tesla in any way shape or form unfortunately @SunnY S although sometimes I wish I could.

Oh boy…the ‘Shift to Park’ error showed up. Guess I’m praying for warranty on the shift assembly…

Our did that a couple of times dealer fixed it under warranty in a day. Until it is fixed it it went away on ours with a couple of tries

Sent using a thumb maybe 2
I need to get to the dealer for a washer nozzle today anyway that failed so I’ll talk to service then.

Just an FYI:

Sending shares of the startup automaker up 6% on Thursday, the EPA awarded Lucid Motors' (LCID) Air Dream Edition with an official rating of 520 miles of range on a single charge. At that level, the EV would beat Tesla's (TSLA) Model S Long Range by more than 100 miles, the previous record for how far a car could go on a single charge. Lucid is still feeling the investor love this morning, with the stock up another 5% premarket to $22.34.

Thought bubble: The electric car industry is still in its infancy and how far an EV can go before they have to be plugged is a crucial factor for any vehicle's success. A battery can take hours to be fully charged, depending on the car and charger.

"Crucially, this landmark has been achieved by Lucid’s world-leading in-house EV technology, not by simply installing an oversize battery pack," said Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson, a former Tesla engineer. He credits aerodynamics, motor efficiency and other components for being the first to the 500-mile club.

Outlook: Tesla is still one of the market leaders in EVs, producing around two-thirds of electric vehicles sold in the U.S. Lucid's cars also occupy a luxury niche, with the Air Dream Edition starting at $169K before federal and state incentives. Lucid hopes to eventually offer more affordable versions of the Air, like one that will sell for about $77K, and the company is also working on an SUV.
