Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Haha, we should spin hydrogen off to a separate thread where Sunny and the crickets can hang out.

This used to be an informative thread.. Now it's just gone to bickering between certain people.

Can we go back to people posting about their experiences and bringing forward good, relevant information about EVs?

I second this motion.

I'd love nothing more, but so long as captain hydrogen goalpost insists on trolling the thread every 10 actually meaningful posts, it'll be hard to keep it on track.

That'd be great.

Im going to need to buy gas this week! Damn this cold weather!

I'm getting about 1500KM/tank right now. Yes, this super cold winter has it's effects.

I also brought home a 350lb bathroom vanity from Lowes on the trailer.

So far during the time I’ve owned it I’ve only asked a friend to use their truck once. Taking 1000lb of broken concrete (from my basement) to the dump.

I’ve thought about it but as much as i hate buying gas I’ll defer to the expertise of the designers. I’m going to leave it as is.

Have you guys tried the ERDTT Resistor mod?

The lead engineer for the Volt is actually the guy who wrote the book on the ERDTT defeat, so you don't have anything to worry about. ;) . I can confirm that all normal battery protection features and such will still function even if you defeat ERDTT with the sensor mod.

I've done it on my Volt and it worked awesome last winter - on trips where I was totally within battery range the engine never ran for ERDTT. The only issue is that you soon discover that a 6KW electric heater isn't exactly massive, so when temps get below about -15c the electric heat alone struggles to heat up a stone cold cabin. Once warm, no problem, but that initial heat up took some time.

This year once the cooler weather arrived I flipped the toggle switch for my ERDTT defeat..and it didn't work. I think the resistor is burned out, or maybe one of the wires came off. Either way, I didn't worry too much about it this year since I'm not being quite as anal about using a little gas in the extreme cold this year vs last.

I also have the "MyVoltHold" app (as well as MyVoltStar and MyGreenVolt) app on a cheap old android handset that is affixed to the dash which can override ERDTT via software, so I've been using that when I do want to override things.

It's supposed to warm up to 3 or 4 on Sunday last I saw...which considering the temps we've been having should feel positively balmy, so maybe I'll pop the hood and look at the resistor then.

I installed a 47k resistor inline with the ambient air sensor for now.

Sunday is probably a good day for me to run my wiring and hook up the switch I bought as well. DPDT switch (ON-ON) which will connect the regular ambient air sensor if flipped down or connect a fixed 15k resistor if flipped up which should show a temp of -7C. Figure leave it flipped up for the colder days and if extra heat is needed use HOLD mode (Gen 2 volt) instead of having ERDTT kick the engine into high gear and waste unnecessary fuel. Drove in to work today (30km) and had ERDTT come on once at the beginning of the drive but not again after that, heat was fine with just the 8kW electric heater.

Set the heating temp to "Hi", select "Max" (Eco vs Max) and fan to "Low" this may keep your coolant temp high enough for ERDTT not to come on.

Yep. The trick is to keep the engine coolant temp warm enough that it doesn't drop low enough to trigger ERDTT. This only works down to about -10 or so if you're moving however, below that the grid heater just doesn't have the oomph to keep the coolant warm enough. If you're sitting still however it works great down to about -20 or so.

That thread may come sooner than later but for now have a read..... massive gains

"Hydrogen energy gains steam"

It's quite evident there is a big push for hydrogen over batteries for cars trains machinery fork lifts even planes

IT'S coming.....

Today I filled up my 2017 Volt for the first time since getting it in Dec.. What an odd feeling I thought as I stood there in the cold this morning for a few minutes. I still had a qtr tank but with the stations running dry the past 2-3 days I figured I'd fill 'er up when I saw an Esso with gas.

Gotta admit, the Gen2 is a nice upgrade over the Gen1. That heated steering wheel!! Luv it!

Audi e-tron charging plan prices are out. Damned are they expensive. Monthly fee of 5 to 20 euro plus ~8 euro per charge and some plans charge 0.33 /kwh on top of that. They either don't want people to sign up or hope their customers are dumb and rich enough to light money on fire.

Wait until the warmer months when you're going months between fillups.
