I find this a lot of stores, Back when i was looking for a tent I found doing a google search and following the links most times gave a real cheap price . Call the store to confirm and yep sure enough not in stock
That's the nature of drop shipping. I know it sucks.
At the same time, when googling something and it comes up on a store's site that you would never expect to carry such items.
I find the WalMart site to horrible for this. You can more results for items and crap that would never end up on store shelves.
I have no problem if that's what is shown on their website. I get ****** off when they outright lie. Hell, there is lots of room for information on a website. Instead of "in stock, call for pricing", how about "we can bring in the entire vic west product line, here is a link to the catalog and we would be happy to help you in store or order by phone. Please note minimum quantities and shipping fees may apply".

I spent 35 years in supply chain. I did a tour of the St Jacobs HH warehouse. Huge place, lots of old technology in picking managing inventory, lots of obsolete stock, bins covered in dust........... Not terribly impressive. Most HH stores get delivery once per week, so if you just miss a cut off you'd have to wait about 2 weeks for the store to receive your order...... HH supports small towns and rural areas in general where you'd never find a big box store.
Agreed. Hell, as a default, give me a price for one of your stores (for HH say St Jacobs) and let me input my postal code if I want. Price may change a bit but I wouldn't expect a huge difference. If I think the project is worth $50 to me and the St Jacobs price is $100, that's good enough to answer my question.
The HD near me isn't as user friendly as the Lowes but either works. For small stuff the little Rona is faster with next no line ups. The HH at Cloverdale Mall is a grab bag. They seem to carry a lot of discounted stuff, ends of lines etc. I bought a soap dispenser for $11 while the kitchen place in the mall has them for $40. Got a 120 volt snow blower for $80.
Home Hardware seems to favor small towns and the one we have in Lakefield offers good prices and great service.
Never really liked Rona, poor service at the one in Lakefield (now out of business) and the one in Mississauga.
I'm not happy Home Depot will have less competition.
Was their last week looking for shopvac filters. Base 2 pack was $43 and fine dust 2 pack was $50. Took $50 pack and at self serve it rang up at $60. Store employee and I went back to bin and label said $50, so she gave it to me at that price + another $10 off for the hassle. Today, that $50 2 pack is $70............... Looked at the standard $43 2 pack and it is now listed at $50.
Then looked at the US price and numerically, without currency translation, they are about half the cost of the old CAN price. Someone is getting screwed.......

Most people including cashiers are not familiar with "scanning code of practice". Most stores abide by this and have a sticker near the cash register that explains it. If the price at the till is not what's at the shelf then the first item is free up to 10$. Or in your case correct price less 10$.
Unfortunately it's up to you to catch it and then insist that employee follow the code as they usually have no clue as to what you're talking about. (the stickers nearby - I just read it to them).
Pay attention and you can get tons for free.
There is value in shopping home hardware , they are all franchised so your essentially helping local business and a Canadian company . Sure the folks that work at Home Depot also live local , but it’s a bit different.
Our biggest issue when doing a reno has been the boxes all have product that appeals to 1000 customers nothing truly custom or unique so when you want great tile , it’s off to tbe tile shop, you want really nice plumbing fixtures it’s off to Taps .
I get one stop shopping and building a rental unit , absolutely, but it’s a pretty bland moulding selection in there .

Too bad they make it next to impossible to do business with them. I would rather shop local but having the only person who can sell trex go home at 3 makes it difficult.
I’m actually shocked at that . I’m not sure how they can’t just call the HH distributor, whom has the pricing levels for them right in front of them on screen , minimum order quantity to hit free delivery or a job site option with a Moffat truck . And in store they have a binder with pricing in it , if it’s current, it’s an annual price so it’s almost always current . Please don’t tell me which store .

HH are mostly family businesses, management styles and capabilities vary greatly. I've been in some that sell building packages and will even arrange trades. Others (like the on in my village) operate like a lemonade stand.
I used to support them, but now their retail model is aging and I rarely visit their stores these days. There will always be a spot for the local hardware store.

After visiting a local hardware store in Korea and picking out spring rod off a wall and having them coil and grind custom springs while I waited, ontario stores felt very lacking.

Home Hardware for contractors is the worst of the bunch. You have to setup an account with each individual store. For those that have jobsites that greatly vary locations it's spectacularly useless.
That’s not unlike Castle or Timbermart and the other stores that are franchise not corporate . A zillion yrs ago I worked a castle store , if a contractor from out of town needed an account we could set it up in three business days . Most ran a visa or Mc card prior to getting going . Only the unorganized contractors had problems and you didn’t hurry to grant them credit anyway .
Most franchise locations are a function of the sum of thier parts , get a good guy on the lumber desk that knows what an wood I beam is and a plumbing guy that has heard about fernco couplers and your getting someplace.
Get a store where they have an awesome bbq section you’ll have trouble finding a guy that can help you with a 3 way switch .

lol a month back I was in HH and on a Saturday looking at new drawer pulls on their big rotating display. I asked the guy at the customer service desk 15 feet away for a price and if they were special order, he said yeah they were special order but I'd have to ask the lady that works in the kitchen department for a price who only works monday through friday...

Check walmart for those. I bought some bags for my shopvac and they were less expensive, Stanley brand, work just the same. I also had them delivered for free.
