Another gas price thread !

How so? If your car is tuned for 94 then you really have no choice other than to retune it for 91.... unless you want it to blow up because you listen to people like, well, you.

If it's a case of someone thinking their car needs 94 (and there are so few cars sold in North America that do) when it doesn't then yea, but "throwing your money away" is hardly what they are doing.

Once you get into high end cars and heavily modified track/road cars with SAEMs you have certain requirments.

If you're using a highly tuned car as a daily driver, then that's unwise

I don't think that's universally true. All cars have knock sensors out of the factory that detect preignition and adjust spark/fuel to eliminate it before any damage can be done. Unless you have a modded vehicle that doesn't adjust for knock, then you can get away with lower octane safely.

The recommendation in the end just means that your car is tuned can benefit from 94 or whatever, but I don't think 87 will hurt it.

I'm pretty sure Obama will authorize an attack on Iran just so he can get re-elected like the little George Bush did. They don't like to swap out presidents during war time.

As for refineries I don't know much about but my company has a refinery. They've had to borrow money for the first time in the company's 60 year history and poured in about 500 mil to expand capacity but it will take few years to complete it so it's not like something you can build overnight.

Heard on the radio a few days ago that regular gas will be in $1.50 range by the end of spring

hmm.. was planning to drive to Toronto this Fall might have to carry a few jerry cans.

Even just a 0.001% whiff of a chance of war will have the masses running to the Democrats. They've had war up to the eyeballs for a while, and will elect whoever is least likely to start up another one.

Some ppl will chip their cars to use higher oct. and hence unable to run on anything less, at the expense of 5-10hp. Those ppl should not complain about high gas prices though

Thats purely speculation tho, just like the speculators who's causing the spike in gas prices

lol how many wars has the Americans been involved in since WW2? They love wars just don't want to admit it.

I just don't really see how they're going to pull it off with their massive debt problem. There's nothing in it for the US if they go to war. Oil prices will just go up which hurts the US. I think they'll work very hard to neutralize Iran through other means. The military runs that country and consumes much of its wealth. It might be a different war than the boots on the ground kind.. Unless Iran starts to threaten its neighbours such as Saudi, UAE etc..

Your problem I guess is you didn't understand the bit where I said "when your car is tuned"...

Tuning to me is throwing the POS ECU in the dumpster behind the shop and using (again) SAEM's...

I think I covered the bit where I said some people don't know they don't need to run max octane however, pulling timing (knock retarding is just that) means you are pulling HP and torque so why pay for a car with 700HP (or build one) to pull timing?

Seems retarded.

If anything you want to run advance on engines you build. We run a 50 degree advance on some of our race cars. That has the side effect of winning races.

:)

Exactly but politicians will be politicians. They'll do whatever it takes to stay in power. I questioned the same when they went to war in Libya with their massive debt problems and nothing to gain.

They would be going to war to ensure they have the oil necessary to run the States. Could you imagine the States if they ran out, or simply, the everyday commuters couldn't get to work ?. The big wigs couldn't get there egg McMuffins anymore because the worker can't afford to drive to McDonalds, no more Latte Grande from StarBucks for the same reasons. Small stupid **** like that is the beginning of the collapse. I am pretty sure Canada is like the 7th or so biggest oil producer in the world. With that in mind, we might as well just keep it in Canada and prosper.

The US is now an exporter of refined oil products... just saying...

I think they had popular support in Libya..and they certainly weren't fighting the main part of that battle. I think they were trying to garner some sympathy in the Arab world by helping The People. And that the oil will keep flowing... Dunno how that's going.. I think Iran's Revolutionary Guards will eventually play ball..they like their oil income..

MY problem? Thanks buddy.

FYI the OEs tune their cars too you know. It's called a stock tune and they couldn't run without it.

As for what you said, you might want to read yourself before quoting yourself; "If it's a case of someone thinking their car needs 94 when it doesn't then yea". As in, someone thinking their Elantra is a "GT" so it needs premium fuel? Yeah, exactly like that.

And to answer your question: To... save... money...? Is that retarded? What seems retarded to me is tuning a commuter like a race car to begin with.

Anyways, I apologise for trying to help. Please go wind another 3.5hp out of your beast and then come back here and tell us all about it.

I feel bad for those people that need to run premium in their litre bikes.

And I feel bad for those with less than 150 rwhp :P

I have three vehicles that require prem and I dont really care about gas price increases. I live 15 minute from the downtown core, all my driving/riding is for pleasure, and I own energy stocks. If anything, gas price increases are a net gain for me in terms of increasing the value of my house and portfolio.
