Alleged Auschwitz guard, 93, arrested in Germany

That's because the holocaust is shoved down their throats every day of every year. It's a constant cloud over Europe. Special interest groups have made an entire industry of it, and its in their interest to keep the wounds fresh as long as possible.
This. It's official government policy NOT to forget about it...so it seems hard to move on (they've chosen to respectively embrace it as part of the nation's history). I mean, they've got the whole "lest we forget" thing going on, but it's a little hard to move on when there are memorials and museums and the whole tourism industry is basically based on the nazi regime and all the atrocities that "they've" committed.

With that said, Germany's come a long way in such a short period of time, and I'd be proud if I were German.

I think the OP and others and others trying to point out that's Jews were a minority of those victimized by the NAZI'S, yet media/western governments shove it down our throats as if they were the only victims.
A lot more romas, disabled, other ethnics were bumped off. Not to mention eastern Europeans(Russians, ukrainians , etc). At least that's what I understood from his posts

I think you have no idea what the OP was trying to point out, ( other than the fact a 93 yr old was arrested for a crime from 60 yrs ago ) as he only has one post, and its a link to a news story lol

Corrected. Didn't realize I didn't write "others". Thanks for pointing it out. But its still on the point. How many guards are being pursued for executing or even being a guard for Russians or Romani gypsy's prisnors?
At least that's how I read the original post. Maybe I lost his message in translation.

Again, the original post is a link to the story. What post are you talking about?

As I pointed out in my correction I wasn't just responding to the original posts but all the posts I've read here, hence "others" was included in my correction.

It sounds more to me like you want to make your *own* point and take the discussion in a particular direction.

But carry on.

Actually, no, you wouldn't. At least not publicly - for fear of being being branded a Nazi. And yes, I'm dead serious. I have many German friends who live there - the only time they feel it's OK to show any sense of national pride is during the Euro Cup, World Cup and Olympics.

Germany is the financial engine of Europe. They have done incredible things since the war get the country reconstructed and have paid countless trillions of Marks and Euros as war restitution. Something no other country in the world could have been able to do without bankrupting themselves.

Something to be said about the German work ethic, for sure.

Your post ties into another thread about slavery/affirmative action and reparations (Caucasians need not apply thread). Some people there were saying why should they be held "responsible" for something they had nothing to do with. I tried to point out that the country benefited and so did their specific race during that period therefore laying a path for their race's greater success today.

I do recognize their point hence why your post reminded me of the "kids" of Germany today revolting and saying that had nothing to do with me therefore we are putting a stop for being made to feel guilty and branded as Nazis for wanting to fly our flag in a patriotic way for all Germans.

Black Americans suffered slavery and other atrocities imposed by the Government yet they did not get reparations nor are white Americans today being blamed for slavery.

It's interesting to see two sides of the same coin.

Is that bad?

Jimmy the Greek said most professional athletes today are black because physical prowess was bred from slavery. If true something good came of that then. Double sided coin again.

Their black ancestors never had a choice now did they.

I never denied that it wasn't taboo to be a publicly-proud German. but even if you look at Berlin...the walls came down only ~30 years ago and now it's one of the most diverse and cultural/artistic cities in the world. And the mayor of Germany's capital city is gay...talk about HEAPS of progress.

I even met a German who didn't tell people in Spain just 'cause of all the crap that's happening right now. Unfounded frustration, imo...but I see both sides of it. Noch, ich liebe die Deutschen

edit: hahaha I'm on Germany's nuts so bad

The difference is that Germany fought other countries in the war, so the "Us vs Them" was prevalent.

American Slavery was effectively a national matter and did not involve other countries.

You might want to look into the countries that brought the slaves to the Americas, Dutch/Belgians/Spanish and Portugese all had a hand in the export of people. The didnt have territories in Africa for the nice weather.
