Alcohol

Yeah, but really... Ice wine FTW!

It wouldn't bother me if LCBO shut down. I have a drink or so per week, usually a mix but also use wine in cooking. It help bring out the flavours in spices and herbs. The alcohol evaporates.

This week has been an exception in that a half sister I never knew came to town and a bit of wine got some family stories out in the open. Hilarious.

My disposition is opposite that of the stereotypical alcoholic in that when I'm upset I don't want to be near the stuff.

I am an extremely occasional social drinker. But I drink a little to get a buzz on, relax (I don’t do “relax” well), and pretty much stop - I don’t enjoy being over the top. I can hold a lot of alcohol, and hold it very well, but I just don’t remotely enjoy being that way honestly.

I like a good rum - Genuine Havana Club direct from Cuba is my go-to (the fake Peurto Rico Havana Club sucks!), but I like Kraken as well, or a good rye - Forty Creek is my go to there.

I’m also not against slamming red wine. As per description thereof, not picky nor an aficionado, just like wine lol.

Busy eating ice cream somewhere. 😉

We have alcoholism on both sides of the family, wife’s and mine , so I am a bit vigilant to make sure it doesn’t become a problem here . So far so good . I’ve witnessed the really ugly side of drunk so we avoid going there. Alcohol is truly not for everyone and I’m happy for those that figure it out.

Our family also has alcoholism within it but thankfully it’s not in the immediate one. Mom calls anyone (including me) an alcoholic because we enjoy it, but I rarely ever drink anymore during the week.

Unfortunately I’ve taken to some edibles and THC drinks which give me a good buzz…but instead of empty alcohol calories I munch on snacks due to the THC.

One thing that's always struck me is how European cultures' approach to drinking is divided on a north/south axis similar to the potato/tomato line:

On the potato side, drinking is typically heavier and done to the point of getting properly drunk. Going out to drink or getting together to drink with food being secondary is quite common. On the tomato side, it's much milder, and getting obviously drunk in public is considered a bad look and not really socially acceptable. Booze is usually an accompaniment to food, and even where it's the focus (see aperitivi in Italy), it's consumed as a precursor to a meal.

As someone with both sides in my family, I was 100% potato in my youth and am much more tomato now...
