Here's the smoked Old Fashioned my buddy makes:

I feel like such a philistine around him...
I'm not a whiskey guy but I would love to try that.

On our trip to PA back in May, 2 riding buddies stocked up on some tequila and whiskey or bourbon before coming home. Stuff that was either really $$$ here or you couldn't it here. The night earlier they during dinner, they were talking about their favourite bottles and such. Language I didn't understand, I felt like I was in a Starbucks line.

Yep. That Cava de Oro stuff my buddy likes is $90 in the US. $200CDN up here in Canada. If you can find any in stock...

My only experience with Tequila is getting plastered on the cheapest Cuervo in Uni and throwing up a spleen the next morning and vowing never to touch the stuff ever again. Just the smell of it still makes me dry-heave...

I'm not a huge fan on Tequila either, but that's because I would have only tried the cheap stuff.

My neighbour is also into the good pricey tequila. He brought a bottle over for my b-day party back in April and we all did a few shots. I was actually good, but I still would take that as my drink of choice.

I feel bad when my buddy pours me all this expensive "reserva" "single-barrel batch whatever" stuff for me.

I know he wants to share his love of fine liquor with me, but somehow it all feels a bit wasted.

I told him I like the flavoured Absolut and he almost threw me out of his house...

Is that the equivalent of him telling you that he likes Oxford purple flavoured bags over your Mosko bags.

BTW.
If you really like the color purple, I have this exact set available.
At least you know no one would want to steal them.

Lol.

No, more like if a buddy said he just bought a Harley Davidson...

That’s a great colour!

We had lovely wine with last nights dinner , I primitavo from Puglia, California Pinot noir , and an Oregon red something. Washed it down with a nice Skye Whisky .
I don’t have any alcohol issues , I just drink to make other people more interesting.

Was hanging out with my buddy who's into all the high-end liquors and we were talking about his favorite tequilas last night. Saw your Mayan agave post and asked him:

My BIL is similar. He likes (and can afford) the nicer alcohols.

We were having tequila from some subscription service he was using. I almost spit it out when he told me it was $350 a bottle that we were drinking.

It was ridiculously smooth and delicious…but…wasted on me.

What is that contraption over the glass? First time I had an Old Fashioned was in Montreal.

Watered down to hell, but good.

I need to learn to make nice cocktails. Not just straight on the rocks.

It was the same for me and tequila until I went to Costa Rica and met someone in the resorts private bar. I was/am a scotch drinker and he said he went down that rabbit hole and now is well down the tequila one and ordered me a pricey tequila to sip (25yr old rums/whiskies/etc were all available free off the shelf). So now I enjoy both.

Btw that night was great until the bartender challenged me to a drink he called the “Bye-Bye”. I don’t recall much after that.

I sold some machines to a client in Turkey once, since I didn't get commission on the 8M deal (stupid me) the lawyer took me up to the bar at the top of the JW Marriot in Istanbul and he ordered a few shots of tequila. After I slammed the first he told me to enjoy the second one a bit longer.

Turns out they're $100/shot...

Cocktail smoker.

What is a cocktail smoker?

Cocktail smoking is a technique for adding smokey notes to cocktails by exposing the entire cocktail, individual components, or only the drinking glass to chilled smoke. Typically, a smoker gun, wood chips, a smoking cloche, and a glass mixing bowl are required. A glass mixing bowl lets you see what’s going on.

How does a cocktail smoker work?

Moisture condenses very quickly on a cold glass. Thus, when a cold glass covers a burning heap of canella, smoke condenses on the moisture-covered sides of the glass. This allows everything in the smoke except the carbon particles and tar to dissolve in the moisture, adding to the flavor and eventual taste of the cocktail. An ice cube’s film of water attracts and binds smoke in the same way.

Smoking cocktails add flavors, aromas, and textures to cocktails. If you’ve ever spent time near a grill at a barbecue, you know how that affects the smell of your shirt. Even though the grill doesn’t heat it, the shirt absorbs the smoke’s aromas, and you begin smelling like roasted turkey. Since 90% of flavor is the aroma, increasing the aroma of drinks leads to better flavor too.

By infusing smoke into a beverage, cocktails smokers help give drinks unique flavor notes. It also helps unlock hundreds of unique cocktail recipes to enjoy by yourself or entertain your buddies with during those get-togethers. The process is also sometimes known as cold smoking.

You can use different flavours of smoke to infuse your drink. Here's a sample:

My favorites are apple and chocolate.

He was your... Spirit guide...

I'll just show myself out now

Same with wine as well.

My wife and I don't like dry wines. We like them so sweet that our wine connoisseur friends call us "juice drinkers".

Still, can appreciate a nice Malbec or Pinotage.
So more Port?
