Acceptable price for a sports bike and differences between them?

Pesonally I fell in love with the CBR RR. However I should have not purchased a SS this time around. The amount of KM I put on the bike SS's are no longer for me. I did however research the crap out of the 600 class when I did purchase my latest bike and here is what I found:

CBR RR:
Flick-ability high
Holds value
Build quality fit/finish
Aftermarket parts support good
Smooth power
Highly regarded on the track and in magazine reviews
Longest unchanged model run

ZX6R:
Large feeling bike
Few Available
Fit and Finish low
Most powerful
Power mid/high in rev range
Tranny issue 2nd gear
Aftermarket support mid/low

GSXR
Hands down best bang for the buck
Fit and finish mid
Comfortable (my frame 6.0')
Huge aftermarket parts support
Least expensive
Harder to find a mint bike
Lots of gadgets

I am with you - if I were to buy SS it would likely be 750. But if you have time - try it just to see what's it all about.
I love test riding bikes - gives you much better idea than just reading about them
 
When I went from Italian to Japanese I looked at the bike with the most available, cheap used spares and add ons. I was building a trackbike, which is different to your plans, but the same applies. Choose a bike that you like the looks and feel of. Forget about extra midrange and a couple of extra RWHP. You won't use any of this stuff on the street. All 4 big box Japanese bikes are very close on reliability and performance. IMHO you should choose on looks, feel, price and resale value, and not necessarily in that order.

Lemme know when you plan go for some demos, I'll tag along lol No fun to go to them alone. Still sad that Honda's event was full of rain!

Sure! I'm done for this year - tried all the bikes I wanted except FZ1. I then took Lee Parks course (taking Level II this Sun) and decided to keep my FZ6 for a while. Now saving up for little 125-250 track bike and Diavel in may be 3-4 years

Only thing id say that is not to lump the 07-08 in with the 09+. Different generations and different bikes.

You'd think someone actually interested in the hobby would enjoy reading the plethora of magazine reviews that you can find online for free about every SS bike usually on their own, and in a shoot out.

Yeah did more research today, really leaning towards the GSXR750. However, I don't get why ppl say it's cheap...MSRP isn't the cheapest one, the R6 seems to be (GSXR600 vs. R6, not the GSXR750). Used prices all seem the same.

You cannot classify the GSXR750 in the same group as the 600's. It outperforms them in every shape and form. And what i meant as best bang for the buck is in my opinion you get the most amount of features for the least expensive price.

I may be wrong but gixxer is one of the most popular bikes = high sales volumes = deeper discounts
 
You missed kahunas father day sale. Brand new 2011 zx6r for $8888. If I knew earlier I would of sold my Gsxr earlier.

I'm very much new to this forum, and I'm looking to get my first SS bike myself.

I like gixxers over the other brands because of looks and because they're not so expensive to maintain, lots of places to buy parts and mods, they're popular and they hold value rather well.

If I could buy a new one, I'd be aiming towards an Italian bike.

Why? Technology, design, great looks, kind of exotic, very well rated, just like their four-wheeled counterparts.

coming from someone who has owned a couple yamahas and triumphs....

maintenance on a daytona is nothing more than any other bike.

as for parts, prices are generally the same, just add 5-7 days for special order items that generally aren't stocked by local dealers.
 
Well, I'm gonna necro this thread (even tho it's only been a week lol) and ask another queston:

For those of you who have bought new, how "cheap" have you managed to talk down the price to? I'm looking at the GSXR750 but am not closed to the 1000s or 600s either. I know the European bikes generally cost more brand new even if you do manage to talk them down.
 
I buy new. 100,000km and counting is why.
 
Just don't buy 06-07 Gixxers. Lots of pricey problems. R6 is nowhere near as popular as Gixxers. For every 1 r6 there are 5 more Gixxers. I have both, gixxer is more comfy but r6 is way better in performance etc. I always thought of Gixxers as bikes made for an average Joe to enjoy as they are more well rounded. But a jack of all trades is a master of none.
