900,000 students coming in…

Hey, 900k isn't enough...let's bring in their elderly parents that didn't contribute a dime to our economy / country, and then let them live off the healthcare we provide...
And Don Cherry got fired for saying the exact same thing. Here's hoping a change in 2 years when the next election is will at least stop or slow down the gravy train but unfortunately most of the damage has already been done.

I'm quite sure that the Conservatives indicated they will NOT stop the immigration train, not sure about the NDP...but Singh just won his confidence vote again (with a small margin) so he won't do much as he's as useless as they get.

Cons said they have no plans on changing anything. The division has been so well implemented by the libs that they don't have a choice. Saying they will reduce immigration would immediately release a flury of comparison to white supremacists and racists. If they get elected, I expect policy to change.

I believe Pierre says the immigration system needs to change, but doesn't directly say he would cut the numbers.

I highly doubt we'll see any positive changes when it comes to immigration.

I have a question...

All of these private colleges that these students are coming over to attend... Why don't they set up shop in the places the students are coming from?

Define "positive"...
  1. consisting in or characterized by the presence or possession of features or qualities rather than their absence.
  2. 2.
    constructive, optimistic, or confident.
"there needs to be a positive approach to youthful offenders

In the context of immigration, fair to me would include:

  • Deportation and ban on reentry for criminal conviction while on a visa or PR.
  • Removal of jus soli birthright citizenship for illegals and tourists.
  • Fast path for healthcare and other in-demand workers that can be quickly qualified and licensed to work in Canada.
  • Prohibition on tax free property ownership for non citizens and non resident citizens
  • Eliminate consular protections for non resident dual citizens living in their alt citizen country

Positive is letting the good/useful in and keeping the bad/freeloaders out .... and deporting the bad so the message gets around that we have laws here for a reason and back them up with some bite.

This past summer I went to use a gas gift card to fill up my bike. I put the card in at the pump and it said to go into the store first. Another fellow doing the same as I was ahead of me at the store already dealing with the clerk. It was obvious he also was trying to use a gift card. No doubt due to fraud they wanted to ensure the validity of the gift card before use at the pump.

The end part of the conversation I heard him say "we're letting thieves into this country". Knowing where most of the scams here are coming from I said "You go that right.".

Max Bernier said that he would limit it to 250,000 when numbers were at 300,000. He was immediately turned into Mad Max the white supremacist racist.

Listening to him in the French debate he was actually really good. I couldn't imagine trying to be politically correct in a second language. He's gotten a little too fringy for my liking since unfortunately.

Historically Canada has welcomed a fairly consistent number of newcomers. The 5 year 2000 was about 230K people per year, and as the population grew, that number slowly grew as well -- to a 5 year average of 255K/year in 2015. That was also a practical limit, as growth in housing, health care and gov't services had to keep up with increases in population.

To make matters worse, JT increased the issuance of student visas substantially. .In 2015 there were 350K international student visas in Canada, today there are 850K students with active visas. That number is growing by more than 100K per year.

Trudeau is increasing immigration faster than the country can grow. As a result, there is incredible tension on housing markets, access to health care, and government-delivered social services -- all of which are painfully punishing all Canadians.

Agreed, and since man young people (regardless of where they come from) are all about "me" it helps drive things down even faster.

The NDP is pushing full medical care. Does that mean an immigrant that has never seen a dentist in their life automatically gets five figures of dental work?

I'm not sure of the extent of the new drug plan but is physio on the table as well. After an injury OHIP fixes you until discharge. Physio is on you.

More good news...

A company I work with has some job openings. We decided to offer some of the positions to some refugees/new comers being housed in hotels/facilities near the company. These are entry level positions starting at $20+- per hour... Met some folks, did interviews and made 9 offers..
All the offers except 1 were turned down.. because they wanted to be paid cash only.
"but it's like I will be working for free" was one of the comments.

Nothing new.

My sister in-law has been on welfare 99.9% of her life. I got her husband a job with me years ago. Unfortunately it cut into her welfare check and there wasn't anyone around to help her with all of the kids. Better off having him paint cars under the table. After the pandemic she got a bus driver license and was making $300/day driving a school bus. Too stressful so she had baby #7 and is back on welfare.

My wife's friend was a hairdresser but it wasn't worth it as it was making a dent in welfare/public housing. So she went full-time welfare, then started dating a ticket scalper/pot dealer(post legalization) who had "chronic pain" and couldn't work. then lost her kid. Now they both have opiate addictions.

Not sure what the solution is to get people to make the jump from support to contributing. I don't know that cutting supports and making more poor people is going to help things.

Bonus: between the two people I mentioned there are autism spectrum diagnosis for more then 50% of the children ensuring the biggest government check possible.
