9 year old passenger?....

i'm at 401 and bayview. i've often taken my boy (at first 6 y.o.) for a scoot to the KC. ya know, for some hot coco. and so i could show him what to expect when he's all grows'd up. last time we were there, he says: "daddy. why are so many police here? they never bring this many cruisers to my school safety days". oh the warm feeling that comes over me when he invites my wisdom like that. "come here pimpin. let daddy hauler at ya"...

helmet, light jacket, and shorts...

The lack of proper gear is a problem. My policy is that any passenger has more or the same armour as I do. Here is a pic with Englishj and I taking a ride with our kids a few years back (my kid was 10). The kids were both with appropriate gear. Another pic with me and the kids at the ganny (trailtours) (10 & 12y /o). Also a pic with Eden O'Shell at 10 y/o on the track. I like this picture as it's the only one with him behind me lol......

I see no problem with kids on bikes....as long as it's done responsibly. I get way more upset with kids in cars where the adults are smoking.

I used to ride mt 12 year old to football practice, him in full gear plus bike helmet. I would be sorry to see such a law, the guvment sticks its nose in too much already. all the laws in the world will never stop poor judgement anyway.

Safety is always first...its just that when I see that smile on her face before and after the ride, I feel so happy.

I found this very old thread....I have a question, my daughter is 9 years old and loves to take a ride with me. Are we allowed to do that because somewhere in the thread I read about a Bill being introduced to restrict the age of a pillion rider.

As stated, the bill essentially died. It's completely legal as long as your daughter is wearing an approved helmet (that fits), and as long as her feet can react the passenger pegs.

Bill 117 (to ban any passenger under 14 years on a motorcycle) had second reading in the Ontario Legislature was referred to a committee of the Legislature and when that session ended the bill was not "carried forward" to the next session and therefore "died" (became extinct and is not on the order paper for further consideration). The sponsor of Bill 117, MPP Helena Jaczek, made a motion (which passed) in the Legislature back in the Spring to have an investigation of all road safety for children, including motorcycle passengers. The government did not proceed with any investigation, probably not wanting to raise more issues in advance of this autumn's provincial election. One can hardly blame them. Perhaps motorcyclists (and others) in the riding of Oak Ridges-Markham might want to consider sending a different MPP than Dr. Jaczek to the Legislature for the next session.

I agree. Just as the electorate of Newmarket-Aurora might want to reconsider their representation, though recent history shows that Member will likely retain his seat.

I take my friends daughters, 9 and 11, for rides all the time. The law just says they have to be able to reach the foot pegs. Even her 5 year old can do that =)

We r so sheltered these days. Everything is so dangerous and everything has to be so politically correct. **** I remember crusing on the back of my dads Harley at a young age and nobody though twice about it.

We knew it was only a matter of time  :D

I was 5 years old when I started riding on my dads GSX-R 1100. I don't remember but he said he'd even do wheelies downtown Peterborough here, and of course people would just glare at him. I guess I would just laugh and giggle and ask to do it again.

Hi gents and girls
The Laws is only for HWY.. I have a 9 years old boy and a 12 years old girl, both loves to ride with me. I don't go in the HWY with them. I don't feel safe!

My 9 year old son rode on Hwy 400 with me quite a few times. I am not aware of any law that restricts the age of motorcycle passengers on highways. The MPP's bill proposing to restrict the age of motorcycle passengers to 14 died a long time ago.

The decision to take any passenger on a motorcycle is highly subjective. Only the rider knows the extent of their capabilities and the capability of the passenger to be a safe passenger. No person 14 years or older will magically become a suitable, safe or capable passenger. It's certainly not a decision the government can make for you.

The kid fits on there perfectly. They should make a wrap around device that straps around the riders waist in case a sudden accidental jolt of the throttle.
