9 year old passenger?....

I've been gearing-up to take my son out as I'm sure he would love it but I've heard about this law and wasn't really sure of it's status, that and the fact that I could just imagine the horror if i did (OMG look at the irrisponsible biker). Back where I came from there wouldn'd have been an issue or a thought, just gear-up and ride(and no I didn't come from a backward society).

But the more I think of it this summer I will, if his mother and I think it's fine then it is. I certainly wouldn't take him on the highways (I sometimes wonder what I'm doing on it when I see how some people drive) but around the neigbourhood and adjoining streets, yes.

I'll take over in ten years so you can have a break, OK buddy?

Thanks for the offer assclown!

I am teaching my children to:

1. Appreciate motorcycle and they will learn properly and will have their own bikes.

2. have good taste in the people they associate with and the things they own and enjoy.

3. Stay away from people who appear to have serious mental issues - unless it is in some form of social, structured, support role (e.g they are the therapist.)

Unless, at some point, one of my children becomes your court appointed therapist, I doubt they will need to spend any time with you.

she's not your daughter so butt out. Unless a parent is obviously abusing his/her child, it's none of your friggin' business.

Hi gents and girls
The Laws is only for HWY.. I have a 9 years old boy and a 12 years old girl, both loves to ride with me. I don't go in the HWY with them. I don't feel safe!

first of all::

ARE YOU SERIOUS

what a stupid f-ing law!! what the hell who honestly makes these decisions??? FOURTEEN?? that's absolute bs. it kind of breaks my heart actually.......... i was really, really looking forward to being able (WHEENN the kid-having time comes) to take mine on the back for sure.

my uncle made a leather child-seat with like a kind of harness type thing for my cousin to ride with him on his harley when he was little (granted this is about 8-10 yrs. ago so i don't remember exactly what it was) but point is.. i'm really really upset now.

This is the only issue I have with passengers, regardless of age. THey should be adequately geared for the ride, be able to hold on, and have a clue about motorcycle safety. Shorts doesn't do it, for me. Neither does helemts that don't fit.

That being said, I have had my daughter on the back not wearing boots. Helmet, jacket, gloves and jeans but no boots. I realize I'm a bit of a hypocrite.

I think if you're responsible about it, and they're mature enough for it, all the power to ya.

Realistically, some 9 years will NOT be prepared (developed) enough to be on the back of a bike. Hell, I wouldn't even trust some teenagers on a bike lol.
On the other hand, I'm sure there are 8 years olds out there who are mature, alert, and responsible enough to do just fine.

Have fun and ride safe =)
to both of these i say:

coming from someone who knows children/is studying them in school... i would be more willing to give an 8-10 yr. old child the responsibility of being a passenger over a 14-16yr. old who has NEVER gotten the chance to be one yet.

i was a passenger for the FIRST time last summer... and my mom had to really give me a speech about what to/not to do as a passenger.. and, okay.. my dad's a solid 250 lbs, and his 1400cc harley is about a ton n'a half, haha.. soo there quite obviously no chance of me throwing off much balance... but, what if someone has a 250 and decides to take their TEENAGE kid on it for the first time, and they don't know what they're doing etc.

the chances of a 9 yr. old throwing off balance or doing something stupid on a bike are smaller.. imho.

What about a law for childern under the age of 16 as passengers in a car?

well i guess i may have over-stepped it a bit, seeing as how alot of parents have alot of feedback from their own experiences, and all of them good ones at that, n glad to know for all you parents out there you can still partake in the activity since the law didn't pass, all i can request to anyone reading the thread, just gear them up properly :)

To judge age of kids is pointless and inacurate at best (the 9 year old you saw could have been much older ...) .... so the age limit is dumb and useless.

As long as the kid has gear and can firmly touch and use the pegs as support, no problem here and we already have law for that .... so all is good.

I take my 10 and 12 y/o sons (soon 11 & 13 y/o) out every now and again. They are properly geared up to. I also take it easy when they're on as the bike becomes a pig but I do crack the throttle when it's straight and clear and I feel them holding me. They are good passengers and follow the rules of the 2 up riding link.

I hope this private members bill lapses...it's totally arbitrary and without merit. Somewhere there is link about her reasons for the Bill (I was thinking of what private members bill to introduce and I thought this would be a good one....). Wow - more kids get injuries playing hockey....

I took my kids out at 9 (now in their teens) I would not likely take them on the 400 series highways but a scoot around the block (or in my case town as it is small) I see nothing wrong with it.

cheers

randy

Why you gotta make it so hard for us assclowns to get some luvin'? We're people too ya know.

I found this very old thread....I have a question, my daughter is 9 years old and loves to take a ride with me. Are we allowed to do that because somewhere in the thread I read about a Bill being introduced to restrict the age of a pillion rider.

Perfectly legal.

Make sure she is wearing full gear, and the obvious that her feet can touch the pegs.

Have fun, it's the greatest riding you can ever do on two wheels.

helmet, light jacket, and shorts...
lol Do you show them some pics of road rash first? Apparently tracksuits protect children from road rash based on the ~5-6 yr old I saw (barely) hanging off the back of a cruiser once.

The bill was never passed. Only requirements are a helmet and the child be able to touch the pegs.

but make sure you have a talk with her first.

I don't think it will be re-introduced but who knows what our lovely MPP Dr. Jackzec (or however you spell it) can come up with next, she has a thing against motorcycles.

My 9 year old son rides with me started at 8. He has his ICON helmet, forcefield back protector, motorcycle jacket, icon boots and a scala as well i wear a powermadd belt that has handles for him to hold on better.

No hwys and only back roads up musslemen lake, port perry that i can get to without highways
