Looking to buying a used bike 2006-08 and im seeing some bikes that are 2006 with 11,000km to 34,000km...

so what is the life expectancy (in Km) of of a 600cc supersport bike, ei. if at 34,000 km with a 60,000km expectancy, its more than half already

Thanks in advance for any response

They can last well into the 100k's if taken proper care of. Problem is most people just beat the shot out of them and end up blowing the engine or crashing.

I get rid of my bikes after 10k. Who wants that headache?

Really it goes down to how badly the owner used to treat the bike; I think this goes for all vehicles. My bike came with a bald rear tire, stretched chain (so stretched that there was 1 link missing on it, previous owner tried to salvage it by cutting one off), hardened front tire, and an unstable dash attachment that fell off on me. I had to fix all of that within the first year along with regular oil changes at 3000.

Talk to the owner and see how they maintained the bike, if they give you some piss poor answer, don't buy the bike. I'm an idiot and I've learned.

I know of a CBR600 in Tennessee with well over 200,000 MILES on it.

Someone posted a pic of the odometer on their zx10r with 99,999 miles on it and then at 100,000 miles (turns out the odo has the extra digit!)

I know of a cbr125r with over 60,000 km on it.

Most are crashed or the owner gets tired of it before they wear it out. Others are abused or neglected to a very premature end.

Its at 245,000 Miles (392,000kms) now

Its all in the maintenance.

Honda motors are generally legendary for endurance if maintained. As another rider mentioned it's all in how they have been treated.
I'm lazy on maintenance so buy mildly tuned machines that require little maintenance and just change the oil and in the case of the KLR spritz the chain.

Higher output machines need good maintenance for long life. Two sources, newbie riders with low KM that bought above their skill level ( bikes these days are barely broken in at 10k ) My Burgman got smoother all the way to 20k.
Or experienced riders moving up who are knowledgeable. That class likes to be pushed and are designed for it.
Good luck.
Always wanted a CBR series and missed a 600rr in Aus for $2500!!!! but you could consider a VFR 800 as well if you plan longer rides.

lol.. if that were the case for me, I'd have 2 bikes a year! lol!

I've said it many times before, it's not the engine or transmission, it's everything else. If you're ok doing a bit of maintenance here and there, go for. If not, get something that's as new with as little mileage as possible. On the plus side, bikes are pretty simple, there are very few parts that wear out.

BTW, my FZ6 which has a detuned R6 motor has ~95k km

Thanks everyone... I'm going to be using it for work Mon- fri from March - November and the occasional weekend rides and occasional Tim Hortons POSE downs :agave:... no track, no knee dragging in the canyons

im a bit of a maintenance nut so I think I'll be fine its the machines that i really wanted an opinion on

That bike is beautiful! good luck with the sale.
BTW, nice avatar on that forum haha
Thanks! She's an awesome bike, I did everything I could to her, was about to drop in a set of cams for a cost of $2k then decided I should just update to an R1 instead :)

My bike has 53k on it and still pulling strong. I swear its even more powerful now than when I got it.

In extreme situations that is the exact case. Most drag cars run there best passes when they are on the verge of blowing up. Reason being less friction.
