The Liberal government has spent years touting its efforts to make tech giants pay. Now, those pieces of legislation could be a target of the Trump administration — particularly the digital services tax that requires large tech companies to make a hefty retroactive payment in June.

Russia is a third world country they really don't have enough money or people to do much in the world they do have lots of weapons to threaten with.

Although I realize the use of the term 'Third World' has evolved, I wouldn't put Russia there. They have 150 million people, vast modern technology and is still a country that projects power in different regions of the world. They are clearly on a path to lose it all, but for now they are still a world power (imo).

Their GDP is actually lower than Canada's with triple the population and declining fast.

What's interesting here is last i checked Russia moved to a war economy, typically wartime economies are booming.

Traditionally the term third world is: US aligned countries is one world, Soviet aligned countries is a world, everyone else is third world... so yeah, Russia is not third world.
At some point "third world" turned into; under or not developed country... which Russia is not either. In a lot of ways Russia is more "developed" than the US: with socialized housing, education, health care, a financial social "net"... there's more.

Anyone calling Russia "third world" is using the term as a pejorative
... but YES, Putin is trashing the Russian economy.

I would agree there are currently a world power, but that at the grace of China and the USA.

Either of those nations could turn Russia upside down in no time.

But why bother? The country that destroys Russia would end up being their wetnurse for decades.

I did some digging;

Allegedly Trumps 2017 tax cuts may/are going to expire around the mid-terms. Smells to me like these economic threats are to shore up a potential face saving measure there.

My overall take is, it's bluster. He ran on inflation, if he does what he says he plans to do that's entirely counter productive to what he sold the American people on. Maybe he doesn't care since he won't have another term, but he would be more than likely leading the party to the slaughterhouse for mid terms and the next Presidential election if so. Can't see a world where he would be happy answering to a split Congress for the last 2 years of his Presidency.

I don’t expect him to be alive by end of term simply due to health.

chance of that amendment getting through are near zero…but they’re there.
