507 Clamp down petition?

Do we even have any evidence that the guys crashing are sport bikes doing excessive speeds? The article mentions a man in his 50s. I just googled "highway 507 motorcycle crash" and skimmed the articles from the first page of results, and all of them mention middle aged riders in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Older riders usually ride cruisers, and they're not doing 150. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them were going under the speed limit when they crashed.
So, how old is a sportbike rider?
How old is a cruiser rider?
Which rider is more skilled?
Does it matter?

................. but leave out that when the road straightened out, they floored it to try to keep the bikes behind them and enforce the speed limit (while conveniently ignoring their own speed as they believe it was justified)................
In all my years on the 507 I've passed a lot of vehicles and only 1 tried to obstruct me. Last season a commercial van was running about 90 - 95 and on every straight he moved left and straddled the centerline, clearly a signal to me to not try and pass. This went on for 10 km and he then turned onto a side road. Frustrating, but pretty rare behavior.

That lady who put gravel on the road should be reported to the OPP.
Those are public roads, not hers or anybody who lives up there
Her action could result the injury or death of fellow riders.
Shame on her!
This was so long ago, some of my recollection is fuzzy. I remember the conversation with her. Just an elderly woman that was tired and chose an irrationally sad thing to do. I remember my friend waiting for me at a store for a while and was nearly finished a bottle of water when I arrived. I do think I called the police. You would think I would be certain. I'm getting old.

The OPP should just set up a few HTA 172 seizure fests and haul away a couple of dozen bike a few weekends in a row once or twice a season.
It was a few years back now... maybe 10 or so, but I remember a post in the rides hookup section about a bunch of spirited riders all getting together to ride the 507. Had like 20 - 30 people all geared to go from the GTA, only to find out when they got there the OPP were all setup and waiting. Some people just said **** it and went anyway and some went home just to complain on the forum about being more secretive about it lol. I know the OPP took at least 2 bikes away from the group for speeding.

But its true that the 507 is a good warm up. Past that Elephant Lake Road to Maynooth and even that little jaunt to Haliburton are good rides.

You keep saying it and I'll keep pointing it out. (actually 105MPH &12.67 seconds)

Don't mean to hijack anything but any of you guys been to the strip? For 20$ it's hard to get a bigger rush.

St Thomas is a horrible track to run! You have to essentially emergency brake at the end because there’s so little run off and the return road is one of the bumpiest ‘roads’ I’ve ever been on.
I’ve been once and that’s it for me.
If that’s the $20 you’re talking about, no thanks.
A good strip to run is Cayuga but I think it’s closer to $50.

Guess I'm not that fussy. How fast are you going? I didn't have any rear brakes on the wing and had no problem getting it slowed. I had a blast every time out.

I never knew the drag strip was open to the general public

Look for test-and-tune days/nights. As long as you aren't faster than some threshold that I'm not aware of (which is quite unlikely to reach if you have not done it before - think it's 10.000 sec in the quarter?) and meet some very basic tech requirements (most of the time, the tech inspectors know nothing about bikes except the chain guard! - gotta have that useless piece of plastic in place) they're open to anyone and are pretty cheap.

I'm not sure if track condition had anything to do with it, but GTAM lost Bradsma at St Thomas Raceway a few years ago. He lost control after he crossed the line. Maybe he just got the short straw on motorsport risk vs reward that day.

Friday nights are cheap about 20$. Then they prep the surface with special adhesives and such for racing Sat and Sun and the cost doubles. Racing may be more but the basic fee gets you in for "test and tune " runs which are limited only by you. I got 25 passes in one Sunday.

I found the whole thing a hoot. Pull into the burnout pit and warm the tire, pull up and get properly staged. Wait for the lights to drop, it's just a big rush.

It's like jumping out of a plane. It's gotta be on the bucket list.

Ya, that one hit close to home. We had just ridden the track at Grand Bend together a few weeks earlier.
He knew his stuff and made sure his equipment was safe - he was an MTO inspector.
Apparently he had been at an evening lapping event at Grand Bend and low sided. He had fixed up the bike and taken it to St Thomas to give it a little test run before doing another track day. Not sure if it was an equipment malfunction, track conditions or just an unfortunate accident, but whatever it was it had a bad outcome.
He did all the right things, tried to do it as safely and responsibly as possible and then that happens.

I was on my FJR and running 11.9’s at around 120mph.

Personally, I haven't ridden the 507 that often. It is a nice stretch of road that is fun to run. Whenever I did, there were always a gaggle of bikers riding the road and clearly trying to punch above their weight. To @shanekingsley point, always people with less experience trying to keep up. I know I have been that guy. I don't enjoy being that guy and don't really want to be near that guy when they make a mistake.

I have also encountered residents shaking their fist at riders as they go by so there is no doubt that the locals are ****** off.

I remember being on Hockley Valley road and watching an elderly woman sprinkling gravel on the road in front of her driveway which was on a mild apex. I stopped and asked her why she was doing it. Her reply was to get 'you guys' to slow down and maybe if one of us got hurt we would learn a lesson from it.

Take a few pictures and remind her that she could be held liable for any injuries. Manslaughter? Lawsuit? Lose the nice home on Hockley?

Does she put up wires across snowmobile trails to behead sledders?

Point out that you will be posting her address on a motorcycle forum that consists of mostly law abiding citizens but one never knows if a non law abiding rider also gets to see it.

I wonder if she would sleep better if a loud pipe rider stopped at the bottom of her driveway at 1:00 AM and just idled a bit, a few blips of the throttle and then took off.

Suggest she gets out a broom and clean up the mess.

People move to nice roads and then want it to become a private reserve. FOTC is similar.

Farm country is similar. Move away from city pollution and then complain about the smell of manure and the sound of tractors.

I'm not against legal methods but booby traps are illegal. Get the county to put in a speed bump with the required signage.

And be mindful that said speed bump may slow the progress of an ambulance or fire truck someday. (And the residents themselves will have to drive over it every day.)

She is prepared to injure a rider and possibly pillion by spreading gravel. That is as indiscriminate as placing land minds, first come first served. It would be interesting if a motorcycle cop was the first victim.

She would likely consider smacking someone with a baseball bat barbaric but thinks flinging a rider into a ditch is OK.

If she was sprinkling the inside of a corner there is a solid chance she would fling the rider into an oncoming vehicle and it would be much worse than the bat. Probably not enough thought went into her plan. Hopefully the cordial discussion with a rider helped her see the light.

Tell the folks on Post Road that. An emergency run to Sunnybrook Hospital, a major trauma centre, takes longer as Post Road has bumps installed, apparently at the urging of the well to do's.

It's not just roads but also waterways. Cruise the Severn Canal. See all the "Watch your wake" and "NO wake" signs put up by the cottagers. The worst offenders are the testosterone teens from the cottages.

Something similar happened on the Bruce Trail years ago at FOTC.A landowner was putting wire across the trail at neck level and painting the trail markers to lead the hikers nowhere.
I think the perp was caught with trail cams.
