Ok worse case you get charged with obstruction of plate right? So thats what , like $150 fine? If you travel the 407 quite frequently, you could easily have saved over $500 or more in 407 bills by "accidently obstructing your plate" , so yes its on your record( minor) but you technically have saved more in the long run by doing this, and your time as well as we all know how good traffic is on there compared to the 401.

Of course! The distance I travel on it and the amount I have saved, a minor obstruction charge would not be nearly as much as I have saved! Just sayin!
 
You do know that if they link you to being a repeat offender it's not just an obstruction ticket, right? They keep record of the accumulated tolls and it eventually becomes a fraud charge.

These are huge IF's! Do you know how hard it would be to tie me to multiple offences?? Based on what? A color of bike? You do what you do for whatever reasons, and I will do what i feel is best. Im not really worried about it.

Well, people who have been caught in past have been hit not just with a toll evasion HTA ticket, and a plate obstruction HTA ticket, but also a toll evader service charge levied on them by 407ETR. That's a few hunded dollars right there. On top of that comes an ETR407 bill for all earlier trips that 407ETR is able to attribute to them. Then they get hit with interest charges.

If you refuse to pay, they send notice to MTO of your non-payment, and MTO is then required to deny you plate renewals. You can could go to civil court to challenge 407ETR on their bill, but your plates will still remain in denial until you are successful, if you are successful, in winning that challenge.

The more often you evade tolls, the more likely it is you will eventually be caught and the greater the pain will be when that happens.

That may be true, and I know the risks associated with it, but like i said these are hige If's and im willing to take my chances.
I dont feel anyone should pay for the 407! The amount of taxes we pay, and they finally build a road to relieve some much needed traffic congestion , then they sell it and make us pay! Screw that!

Whether the gov kept or sold the road is a moot point, it was always going to be a toll road

Wow, to save $5. This will be the same guy who waits in line for 45 minutes to save 0.8 cents/L on gas.

This is good info, thanks. I've had a transponder for my bike for at least 3 or 4 years and they specifically said I had to have one or I would be charged the VTC. My response was why bother to send me one becasue I'm not required to actually have it on the bike, they just cross reference my plate to the transponder # and I don't get the VTC.

So now I have to call back to clarifiy what this means. It could mean you still pay the account fee, but they don't send you a transponder, which is what I have been asking for. It might also mean they cross reference it to my other two vehicles and their transponders and I effectively have 2 fees to pay instead of 3.

I hope you're joking, but if not, did it really work for you?

Even if it were to work, I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons, but then again to each their own:

a) I've seen OPP wait on the off ramps on more than a couple of occasions - not worth the HTA 172 aggravation

b) if you know the ramp and are confident in your skills then by all means proceed, being fully aware of the associated risks, both physical and legal. I can take the 404/407 eastbound exit quite easily at that speed, but personally wouldn't do it; Came across a coyote (or a devilishly large mutant fox) I think, crossing over there once - and it was carrying dinner as well - A small rabbit or something. I really couldn't tell. Haven't hit an animal yet and I hope to keep it that way.

When I set mine up they didn't send me a new transponder. However, I did have an existing one for my car. But I did run into VTC the first bill until I called them and pointed out their mistake
 
I have heard hitting the cameras at a really high speed helps as well but never tried that yet.Either way rode it home once again and im sure I wont get billed, lol. Hopefully the guy got his answer about the transponder, and sorry about the lil highjack in the thread!everyone who pays for it, that's ur choice and good for u. I will continue to use caution as I ride it for free!Peeeaaace!

sshhhhhh!!! you might wanna keep this on the down low. I'm sure that there are plenty out there that do it, but with a few more added to the mix will only wanna make the ETR folks start taking a real long, hard look at this. As long as it's not causing a big enough dent in their coffers, they might not even bother .... at least not more often than they do now ;)

Could've swore myth busters did an episode on this (or was it top gear) and the speed needed as in the 200s or something. Dunno how accurate it is tho.

It works. I used to have to go to meetings in Oakville three times a week. When you get on the 407 at Brock Road it is a dead straight entry with very good sight lines in all directions. On a litre sport bike (or even just a FZ1) you can go from 100 to 160 in a blink of an eye, and back down to 100 even quicker. I would travel all the way to the 403. I paid for every trip, but only for one exit. They did not get me getting on, but got me getting off. The return trip they got me getting on, but not getting off. One exit charge again.
