2024 WSBK/WSS Discussion Thread

Big delay to SSP and SBK Race 2 due to an oil spill in a support class. SSP shortened to 9 laps (!) with no mandatory pit stop. I'm going to sleep, and I'll watch this tomorrow.

Rea wasn't really happy with his yamaha in race 1! Toprak was really happy to pass Bautista on the straith of way..haha

Yabut...

The BMW has to take such a wide flowing line, so Toprak's seeing a lot of bikes shoot up the inside of him into the corners. Can't play defense effectively.

The race gods giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other...

Wow amazing last lap pass!

Round the outside like a muthaforkin' boss!

JRay must be kicking himself.

That was awesome!!!!

Toprak managing his tires to perfection. Wasn't lured into rmatching Sam or Nico's pace. Knows his own pace and stuck to it the entire race.

Bautista is fantastic to watch in the latter half of every race. Glad he was back a bit so we could watch him scythe through the field.

Bulaga is going to be a force this season.

Great race! Can't wait for tomorrow!!!

Wacky weather. What tires do you pick when half the lap is soaking wet and the other half is dry and sunny?

yeah, huge gap in the schedule, and Phillip Island was the only race outside Europe. Better than the headaches MotoGP has been going through ... Kazakhstan, anyone?

I'm currently in a hotel next to Heathrow, on the way home from having watched Donington Park WorldSBK in person. Flight home is tomorrow.

Wow. What an experience!

I'm going to have to watch it on videopass again to catch what I didn't see from wherever my vantage point was at the time ... but with a new perspective to what those riders are doing. The layout of Donington has several places where fans can get pretty close to the action. The approach speed to the chicane is insane. The speed they carry through the chicane is insane. The speed down the hill into the Melbourne Loop is insane. The braking point from 300ish km/h is insane! And they are not shy with the throttle going up that hill. You can hear the traction control working ... and there's some fishy stuff going on with the supposedly-even-firing inline-4 BMW and Kawasaki that you can hear going up that hill.

The fan interaction is fantastic. I have a signed Jonathan Rea poster now. I have selfie pics with JR, Toprak, Axel Bassani, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Tito Rabat. I have a pic of Dominique Aegerter but he was on a mission before a track session and understandably could only spare a second (I can totally relate). I said hello to Tarran and Taylor Mackenzie. I spotted Jonathan Rae's two young lads in the paddock. I have a close-up video from victory lane after race 2. And the Paddock Show is great. There's a lot of fun happening in the paddock that you don't see on TV.

What an experience. Highly recommended.

Nice Brian!

Was a great race weekend, even though I had to watch it from across the pond. That little piano recital from Toesland was a nice touch too.

Toprak is absolutely killing it. Have to admit, after the races, I did sneak a peek at the SBK store window shopping ROKiT gear. Maybe a small, discreet #54 sticker for the GS?

Good to see JRay is slowly coming to grips with the Yammie. I think Bautista might call it quits after this season if he doesn't recapture the title. Seems like the extra weight they're making him carry is really affecting his corner speed. Still no problem passing on straightaways though.

Oh, yes. I did the Pit Walk on Saturday. I spotted James Toseland in pit lane but he had to run off to take care of Eurosport duties.

A bunch of, err, "older" riders were participating in a BSB support class for BMW F900R spec bikes, and I recognised some names that were mentioned, but I haven't put those names together with faces yet.

Oh, watch out for Adrian Huertas. Keeps winning SSP races. And he's a funny karaoke singer ... (so is Alvaro Bautista) ...
