2024 Day Trips

What a great commute route! I'd ride to work every day if I could ride through that. Glad you got the pic!
I've actually used that route about five times so far this season on my way to work at the golf course. I only work two days a week and if there's no rain in the forecast I'll ride to work and take that route, or a slight variation of it.

That is an awesome commute! Going 10x the distance just for fun is awesome and if I lived up that way I'd do the same.

Here's my commute...there's a reason I don't take the bike...

I commuted from Orangeville to TO for over 25 years and often used my bike. When I retired, (about 13 years ago), the traffic on the 427/409/401 was already getting bad. There is no way in hell I would even consider your commute at this point in time. I hope you don't have too many years left before you can retire and enjoy riding on weekdays on roads that are more enjoyable.

Thanks. Not many left. Only about 25!

Considering how quick this year has gone it’ll be over in a flash.

As for the commute…I gave up riding for a time after I hated it so much from Mississauga to Yonge 7 years ago.

While tempting...I worry about random passengers going with you! LoL

Plus...I can barely find 3-4hrs to go for a ride. Nashville is a few day trip so unfortunately I can't fit that time in.

If they can put up with a street triple passenger seat to nashville they're a keeper.

Well, I did it.
Went for a ride with a pack of harleys yesterday. My fjr and a yami venture excepted. 13 bikes in the group.....Turkey Point being the destination.
Left hamilton about 1030. First stop....Binbrook. That took 10-15 minutes.
A 45 minute break ensued while several packs of butts were smoked, doobs galore, and those with handlebar cup holders refilled their beers.
From there, we went to timmies in Cayuga. That was maybe 20 minutes of riding from Binbrook.
That led to a 1 hour break......same going ons as Binbrook.
Finally, skull caps got strapped on, and we rode on, for another ~20 minutes, only to stop again in Pt Dover.
It's nearly 3pm......I left home at 1015am......and we're only in Pt Dover.
That was it for me......I should have bailed in Cayuga.
Buddy called around 10pm....he just got home.

now just waiting for the russian government to return my passport and I can head south

I stop at least once per season when passing through.

Didn’t know what all the fuss was about when I saw horses there once…then binged the entire series in no time!
It was a good show. Wish they ran with it longer.

Quite the steamer today, still nice for a ride. Was planning to go to Prince Edward, thinking it would be cooler there. But with the morning rain I left a bit late. Ended up in Brighton, almost there, but decided to head north from there.

Pitstop in Port Hope

Quick stop in Brighton by the water, was nice an cool

I took 26 out of Brighton, which was great, so peaceful and quiet, no one around.

From here I started to head west back home, passing through Alderville, the bottom part of Rice Lake, and ended up in Bewdly.

Then HWY 9 all they way home basically.

I spent the last couple of days with my brother riding rural Pennsylvania. What a treat. So many great roads, it's almost impossible to make a bad choice. Small charming towns, lots of places to stay.

We left Toronto late Sunday afternoon, arrived in Bradford, PA at about 8:30pm. We had agreed to bring our camping gear, but my brother forgot his sleeping bag, and was too cheap to buy one on the road. So, the Flea Bag Inn it is! I prefer the old style mom 'n pops where you can park right at your front door. So easy to load and unload, and great to have a beer, swap tall tales, and tinker on the bike.

We didn't cover a lot of ground, but that was never the intention. Took our sweet time, with no particular destination in mind. Plenty of breaks. Beautiful weather, thankfully not blistering hot.

This happened Tuesday morning:

But 50,000km is kid's stuff! My brother's '04 GS is about to turn over 200,000km. Wow!

We rode plenty of gravel on Tuesday. Much of it through dense forested areas, no traffic whatsoever. They are seemingly endless, going off in every direction for miles. A few slick spots in the shade here and there, but pretty easy, nothing scary. I didn't need to get up on the pegs not even once.

We finished Tuesday with a run up route 44 to Sweden Valley. I've ridden it many times, but it never gets dull. What a thrilling ride! On to Coudersport for gas and a break.

We carried on, returning to Bradford for a final night. I had a small brain fade on the way there, then the Guzzi decided to take an asphalt nap:

No harm to the rider, and barely a scratch on the bike. I wasn't even really annoyed; in fact, we had a good laugh!

I forgot to to turn on my GPS tracker until lunch time on Monday, so here's half the day's ride:

And all of Tuesday:

As mentioned, not great distances covered:
  • Sunday, Pickering, ON to Bradford, PA 351km
  • Monday, Bradford to Williamsport 397km
  • Tuesday, Williamsport back to Bradford 354km
  • Wednesday, Bradford to Pickering 336km
  • Total: 1438km
No trouble at the border in either direction; a Nexus card and a NY State EZPass make crossing effortless.

Pennsylvania is within easy reach for GTA riders. Get out there, find some adventure, and have a great time. Beware: deer are everywhere and active even during the daytime. Ride safely.
