2023 Day Trips!

Effing hell. Going up to the Elephant Lake Rd area tomorrow so taking the bike up. Spent a stupidly frustrating amount of time getting a route set up in Basecamp (hate that software), and now my GPS apparently $hit the bed. Completely unresponsive...

Now need to re-enter the route in offline google maps on the old Android phone in order to have some semblance of where I'm going.

Not off to a good start...

None of my rides start well. Don't let that stop you from having an awesome ride. All will be good :)

Basecamp can be really good.

Then it must be user error…because I was ready to throw my laptop out the window.

GPS (Garmin Nuvi 550) held a charge when I left it on charge all night, but the touchscreen is not responsive. I assume it's pooped :( Damnit.

Guess it's the phone for GPS duty this weekend.

I had an opportunity to go to Barry's Bay yesterday morning but work got in the way ... if you see a couple of guys riding cruisers (Harley & a Victory) say Hi. It's only 4 there this morning so it's nippy.

Wow, temperatures drop really quick.

Nah Basecamp is a very frustrating old dated user interface piece of software to use. They need to burn it down and re-write it..

They been in the area for a bit? I did that way including Bancroft, Calabogie, Oompah, etc on Wednesday and saw a group like that (I always remember when I pass Vics).

Going to get some more miles in Algonquiun/Renfrew next week as weather looks great.

Left GTA yesterday morning ... stayed at the Ashgrove last night.

Whenever you get a replacement gps, give the Myrouteapp a try. The free version is so much more intuitive than basecamp.

The paid version is really good and I can create very complicated routes in minutes.

I 2nd this opinion.

I have been using this as well to do some planning etc
I like the fact that it saves all your routes in your library. Routes can be easily shared with other riders etc.

@shanekingsley
Have you tried their navigation app? Separate paid app but it works in conjunction with MyRouteApp.

Will do thanks! Looks like the NUVI is dead.

It turns on, holds a charge, but the screen is non responsive at all. Was a good run! And thank you as that’s the one you kindly gave me.

I think @shanekingsley has a 590 for sale. (unless its already sold)

I've been using Tyre for 3 - 4 years, free version. Works well for custom routes on my XT.

Haven't tried their navigation app because I never really use my phone for navigation. I actually just got an email about some deal for lifetime subscription to it for $79Eur. Maybe I'll spend the money in the off chance I use it down the road.

Happy to help and glad it lasted as long as it did - that thing had a lot of mileage and drops on it:)

Agreed - the free version of either Tyre or MyRouteApp are all anyone really needs for most GPS routing and I used them for years with no problems.

The paid version of MyRouteApp was a one time payment for around $100 and it's definitely worth the extra coin to me now having used it for a few years. Being able to quickly toggle between various satellite or hybrid views and toggle on and off various POI's is a great feature. Also being able to create a 5000km ride and then chop it up into daily parts is super helpful for multi day trips. Or get to a destination as a base camp and set up multiple loops (i.e Deals Gap) and then reverse the routes instead of replotting them to avoid sunllight in your eyes or traffic etc., and so on.

Again - the free version is great just the way it is and the paid version is also a good upgrade for the money (especially when it's on sale).
