2022 Day Trips!

I just came across this, This Float Tour Near Ontario Lets You Drift Through A Massive Canyon & It Looks Surreal

While it's not a day trip, it's more like a long weekend with nowhere exciting to be trip. I've been to adirondack mountain area before once, wouldn't mind going again. If anyone knows anything else fun in that area, post it up. Other than 'stopping by' Montreal for some food.

And the water crossing outside Kingston was one of my worst experiences with us custom agents. Not sure would choose that route again.

I’ve done this on a trip to Lake George. It was actually a lot of fun. Oddly my raft was me and a whole bunch of Orthodox Jews for some reason.

The crossing from Wolf Island has always been my favourite. You must have got a bad bunch of agents. Was it the US side?

So things to do from the Ausable Canyon….on the way back you have Lake Placid which is a decent (but pricey) place to stop and get some food.

Seneca Falls if you don’t cross at Kingston and instead head around the lake on the US side. That’s a cute little town and the setting for It’s a Wonderful Life (famous film). There’s also a really good museum of influential women there too. Some great history about the slave trade in the area. Carry on and you have the north end of the finger lakes and some decent waterfalls.

I think we got tubing around a lake up here in Northern western Ontario too, but this in NY would be closer. Plus there's mountain scenery to look at.

Those US agents were like out of a comedy skit, wasn't sure if they were asking if I'm smuggling drugs or want to smuggle drugs?? Was there for good 30 minutes with just us 3. I get that business is slow there, but I had roads to ride. Therefore I concluded it's less time wasting waiting for regular border crossing.

Thanks for suggestions! I'll probably pin some things on the map and depending what days/time I'll ride out, will decide the route/stops day of.

Decided to check out the 1000 islands parkway and long sault.

My day trip was down to the shop for the bike's first service. :(

Edit: The good news is that they can squeeze me in. :) Bad news is that the bike isn't ready until tomorrow 10:00 am. :(

St Raphael’s Abbey ruins tomorrow if everything runs ok.

Will add in Long Sault Parkway and then mooch about on some backroads home.

@jc100 does your drone have the ability to follow you? I'd love to get one to try that function out, butt not willing to spend the $$$

Nice day today. All on highway 2 and the Thousand Islands and Long Sault Parkways. Rain followed us all day but there was some sun. The ruins are neat.

how do you find the seat? Comfy for long distances?
What about seat height? Easy to swing a leg over?

My super adventure seat? It’s a powerparts one. No real difference to me in seat height but it feels a bit comfier.

Oops…sorry I saw that wasn’t to me!

The FZ1 will be my bike for this summer - been riding VStroms for 14 years and time for a change! Just need some rim stripes and better decals, but it won't do much for this ugly duckling. One day I will own a bike I actually like looking at.

Headed up to my Mom's cuz I'm such a good sun.

Now just need to hit up some twisty roads, but the Corbin seat can't get here soon enough and the Solstice ride is going to kill me. At least the previous owner did a bang up job getting the suspension dialed in, so this bike rides likes it's gliding over the road and overall it's so much more fun than the VStrom 650.

pretty bikes are so uncomfortable :(1655608013325.png

Also you should do an in depth comparison of the strom vs fz1

So does gardening run in the family @shanekingsley ?
Very much so. I was getting paid a penny for every weed I pulled in the garden when I was a little kid. That was a lot of bubble gum back then!

Mom is 80 and still spends her whole day in the garden, moving rocks and walking in the forest....

Well I do like the look of the 2015+ Multistrada's, S100XR's and some other similar bikes. For whatever reason, most sport bikes don't really appeal to me in the aesthetics department, even though that Duc is pretty nice!.

As for a comparison, I found my Strom way more comfortable due to the more relaxed knee bend and upright riding position. The adjustable windscreen meant that even with a shorty screen, I can flip open my visor to scratch an itch while moving and it's all good, but with the FZ1, I'm getting full blast of wind from my mid chest up and right into the helmet. So the wind, rain and bug protection of my Strom is awesome for long rides. The Strom also has many options for putting on highway pegs, which is a must for me for long days, especially if there's a good amount of highway or straighter roads. I'm so used to the gearing and the powerband on the Strom that banging through the gears became second nature in the corners. Because mine had a reworked suspension, a Corbin seat and was just right for me, it will take a bit of time to get any new bike just right for me. I did really like getting 350km/tank average on the Strom. It's also a great bike on gravel and easy dirt roads, even with street tires. I'm still not ruling out buying a 1050 Strom in my future, because I got to check some out up close on my last trip south and they are very nice bikes.

For the FZ1, it's definitely going to take me a few more rides to get used to everything about this bike. It has such smooth and linear, yet powerful acceleration in comparison to the Strom that it almost feels like cheating. I feel like I could probably go ride a variety of twisty roads in one gear only - maybe 3rd or 4th gear, because in those gears, the bike will very smoothly produce power from 2k rpm all the way up to 11k, whereas my Strom had pretty much zero power below 3500rpm and the sweet spot was between 6-10k. So that means I can now ride between 30km/hr to 140km/hr without shifting gears, which is something I'm not used to at all. The FZ1 brakes are awesome and very little pressure can do what I want it to. The upgraded suspension feels sublime and I can't even imagine what a bike with all the newer tech must feel like if they are much better than this. I think for inner city commuting it will suck on gas though, whereas my Strom was still really good. The stock seat is comfortable for about 2 hours and then it feels like a slow death. Overall I'd say that if I can get the comfort stuff sorted out on the FZ1, it could be another long term bike for me for paved roads, because yesterday I was able to do 300km/tank of slightly relaxed riding, even with those fat bags that were fully loaded with stuff.

I thought maybe I was only one here who would buy an ugly bike because it had other redeemable features.
I'm referring to my 2006 FZ6. It was ugly but did everything well. Sadly the bike had almost no character.
