2021 Day Trips!

I wasn't planning on doing this short run but I was at Brechin and I wanted to check out Germaine Rd and Cooper Falls Rd. Nice roads, short with some corners that can surprise. There were some bumpy parts as well so took it very easy. Also, it was cold (surprise) - don't know what I was thinking.

Built in 1915, the Kettle Valley Railway serviced the area for close to 50 years before slowly being dismantled in the 60s. The final portion of the railway was removed in 1989 and the whole railway bed is now used for trail riding, hiking and bicycling. Most of the KVR is open to motorized vehicles, so we jumped on for a quick ride to Chute Lake Resort for some lunch and then back.
Narrow railroad bed, not wide enough for two vehicles, but more than enough for a single-track vehicle!

Although the railroad bed is nicely graded gravel, there are lots of smaller roads that drop down to the small lakes in the area that give you a chance to do some X-plorin'.
Chute Lake Lodge offers year round accommodations, but it's close enough that we just drop in for a quick bite to eat. A nice beef and barley soup

Weather's getting cold up at altitude. Regularly below 0°C at the summit of the trails. Brrr!

Took a quick rip up to the 518 today with a couple friends on a KTM 390 and a GSX-S1000F.
Still some really nice colours throughout the Muskoka area.
The 141 was closed and supposed to be until Nov 9. We took a look at the work being done and I'd be surprised if it was done that early.

Assume 518 is now open and how much of Southwood has been repaved?
518 is now open all the way between Orrville and Sprucedale. There is still some work happening near Seguin along the 518, so for about 100m it's down to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals. We waited only a minute and there was no other vehicles when we we there.
Southwood is freshly paved from the 169 in the north all the way down to the second railway crossing, so that's about 6km there. Then it's old pavement through the Torrance Barrens and then repaved a year or two ago after that. I'd guess that maybe 10km or so isn't paved out of the whole 33km stretch. I've been avoiding it for a while, but now that they have repaved the north section, I'd say it's worth adding it back in again.
@Freddy Fudpucker and @MoClutch - Nice riding with you guys! It was fun and I hope you found it okay as well. Couple of overtakes wasn't as smooth as I expected

Oh yes, we also hit the River rd. Also, it was nice Fall colours near Pretty River Provincial parkNice route! Add the river road from Horning Mills to Terra Nova time
Thanks so much for leading us, I really enjoyed it. You're a great leader and the routing was awesome, so nice up there..... Yeah that is a good road, very tree lined, nice!
BTW what is Henry Farm, I've seen that on a few of the routes?
I live close to that area, a little south of there actually. So I end up starting all my routes from Henry Farm haha

Went on an exploration ride yesterday. This time, it was the Black River road that branches off from the intersection of Cooper Falls/ Housey Rapids road near Orillia. About 16 kms 1 way. I looked it up on the internet, and saw a video. Looked interesting, so thought of having a go. It ends at Victoria Falls, which is not much of a "falls" but a nice rapid with a parking area and a bridge to absorb the views
The road starts as a packed gravel two-way road
which narrows down considerably after a few kms
which eventually turns into a muddy track, replete with bogs
this one was deep!

And then you finally reach
Overall a very enjoyable day. Moreover, the bogs reminded me of the ferocious water crossing enroute Ladakh in India.

I'm on a HD cruiser, mind you I have done some tricky dirt/gravel roads, but those blogs in your photos, not a chance.
