2021 Day Trips!

I've got the same issue as Shane and in fact I swear I've got mild Raynaud's Syndrome. After a cold ride, here's what my middle finger looks like. And no, I wasn't saluting half the drivers in town. đź–•

I have years of cold resistance built up from downhill skiing, plus some ski clothes layers which help on these chilly rides.

Never experienced anything like that though @LBV.. yikkes!

Today was sweet riding. Just puttering around, waiting for photo tag to drop, but that didn't work out. Tons of other riders bopping around.

There sure were! Countless waves to and from Terra Nova today

The leaves have started to change in some of the valleys that get colder at night, peak colours still to come!

What a wonderful day it was for a ride. The weather was pleasant. Not too chilly in the morning, not too warm in the afternoon…. just about right!

I set off around 6:30am from home, which was a bit late compared to my usual departures. I try to leave at max by 5am to maximize the riding time before sunset, in case I need to ride long. But today, the journey was short. I’m trying to find the right balance between family time and rides, and I have realised that if I am to keep my wife happy, the long 14-hour rides would have to be spaced out with short 7–8-hour sojourns, interspersed.

This was one of those 8-hour sojourns.

A bit of exploration was in order. Did the roads below for the first time:

  • Twelve Mile Bay Rd
  • Go Home Lake Rd
  • South Bay Rd
  • Upper Big Chute Rd (I did go up to the Big Chute earlier @shanekingsley but we came back through the same White Falls Rd)

Here’s the map the of the day:

One of my favourites – Southwood 13, amidst vibrant shades of green, orange & yellow

Twelve Mile Bay Rd - Freshly paved, long sweeping corners. Not too technical & devoid of any traffic.

Go Home Lake Marina

Just like that

Motivation from @Lightcycle 's $5 a day meal :)

The freshness and aroma of the air through farm fields, the charming & melodious Bollywood numbers that were playing on a loop - Simply enhanced the experience. And to end it it, I picked up Kachoris, Dhokla (Indian savoury snacks) and Jalebi (Indian sweets) from the Kachori House in Brampton and was back home to a smiling wife and daughter.

That cements the next long ride in place! :)

We did the route @shanekingsley shared on his post for fall color ride, well half of it (thanks Shane for sharing the GPX file)

We had a late start and also lost a lot of time at lunch stop near Lake Rosseau. The food was great but service super slow.

Brackerin Rd, Windermere, Aspdin , hwy 141, upper big chute were freaking awesome. Very nice vibrant colors, unbelievably beautiful.
We skipped rain for the most part but roads were damp and wet here and there , which made some of the twisties a bit sketchy.

Met lone warrior @voyageur at lunch stop. Nice to meet you bud.

Glad you made it out! That’s a nice variety of bikes:)

This was the route I did from what Shane had posted. Henry Farm to Canal Lake Parking

Slightly modified it to hit Kushog Lake Rd and Bobcaygeon Rd, I shouldn't have - the roads aren't in any good shape. I carried my DSLR, also my runners just in case I would need them for checking out any of the mentioned lookout points. But in the end, I didn't end up using the runners cos laziness and just didn't end up walking too much. Maybe could have used it for Huckleberry Rock but I just carried on with my boots.

This trip was more about sightseeing than riding. I took plenty of breaks and took photos all along. I might have even stopped on the side 2 or 3 times in a 10 km stretch to check out anything I found interesting. But due to this, time added up and ended up getting back home only by 9 pm (left home at 7 am). Wife wasn't too happy lol.

I will share some pictures of what I saw along the way - it takes time for me to get them off from the DSLR to my computer. Usually, once the trip is over I forget about my DSLR until the next trip.

It was a nice ride, beautiful colours. I think the coming week/weekend would be the most appropriate time to check out these places. Nice to meet norcorider and his friends, which was totally unexpected.

Very nice Macdoc. Funny you mention the smell. It was something that stuck with me after the ride. Reminded me of camping in autumn as a child.

Colour run!!! Through Halliburton and Algonquin. After a quick Photo Tag, headed north where the skies opened up and it was beautiful!

I didn't record the route, basically it was kirkfield, hwy 45, hwy 35, 20, hwy 35, hwy 60, hwy 127, Peterson rd, hwy 648, hwy 118, hwy 3, hwy 503.

Pitstop off hwy 45, head lake, still a bit overcast, not much colour

Tatda!! Did hwy 20 again past the rapids, but took Duck Lake rd and found this connection to Shuylers island
02 shuylers island.jpg

Running through Algonquin, turned off someplace off 60.

Another pitstop off 60 across from a rest stop

Heading back down south stop in Maynooth and noticed this creepy steaple, like out of a horror movie

Elephant lake

From my ride the best colour was going from Minden to Dwight, Wilberforce and Haliburton. Algonquin has good colour but has a mix of evergreens. Oh and Algonquin is busy, every parking lot/rest stop off off 60 was practically full.
