2013 Touring Plans

Sounds about right. Could be done cheaper or more expensive depending on how much seafood one would like to devour!

We also enjoyed many local breweries which made the total trip all the more fun. Small brewers are all over the place so make sure to try them because you won't find most of the beers outside of their local markets.

+1 on hwy 129 to chapleau i was up there a few years ago and it was mostly repaved

I'm hoping to make it up to the 129-ish area this summer too. Saw that a group of CBR125s made the journey and inspired me, also I have a buddy in Blind River who hosts an outdoor backyard concert. Camping and local vendors included... ya, I'm plugging his event, good friend for a very long time. Trying to get him to sell his dirt bike and get a road bike... or just a 2nd bike.

Not sure my CBR125 will last that long though, looking at Vulcan 500s.... This sport is addictive!

I did this trip with a buddy a few years back, and the total cost (not including ferry/hotel to Newfoundland) was around $1200/person. This was a 10 day trip with 1 day camping only.

I did this last summer. Ended up costing me about 2500 for everything. Food was the most expensive part. I didnt cheap out on Dinners lets just say that.

just wanted to throw out an update on the highlights of my planned trip to the dragon. we will be taking skyline dr/blue ridge parkway for almost the entire length of it, starting in Front Royal VA down to Cherokee NC with a gap of about 100km, then we will hop on the dragon, followed by the Cherohala Skyway, on to nashville TN and then it looks like a boring ride home unless anyone has any suggestions? good roads from nashville TN up to canada coming across sarnia

The only thing in that area that is worth considering besides those is the JD Distillery, the roads around it are AMAZING + free distillery tour :)

I'm doing a Mississauga to Yellowstone National Park this June.

Thats awesome! Are you camping along the way? Motels? Big group?

Looks like a lot of people have some great trips planned for 2013!! Definitely looking forward to reading some of your ride reports!

I plan to do a two-nighter tripping around Algonquin on my CRF230 dualie. I've solo tripped a lot but never by motorcycle. I'm looking forward to messing around on the fire roads, if I can find them. I'll go up 35 I think, unless anyone knows a more picturesque route. I'm about the journey as much as the destination. I guess we all are.

this is in Lynchburg TN? im guessing its the one i found on the website i just wanna be sure

Yep :)
You can even buy limited edition/collectors bottles of JD at the end of the tour, they had some pretty nice ones when I was there :)

Do you have a route yet? Was thinking of going through SD where it seems to get interesting starting on the west side but otherwise, trying to find the quickest slab route out.

I HIGHLY recommend Monell's in Germantown when you get to Nashville. It's "family" style all-you-can-eat dining so you sit at a big table with a bunch of strangers and pass the food around. It is friggin' amazing!! http://monellstn.com/ Also, Jack's on the main strip has delicious BBQ!

1500 for 10 days with wife. Including her 1 way air to halifax and ferry.
800 solo for 9 days
I spend more alone ;)
Camp most of days except for 2 nights.
Shared camp with another couple

Decided to ride west this summer, to Vancouver if not Victoria or Tofino. Solo trip, at least 14 days. I'll probably stay in Canada on the way there, and the US on the way back. I expect to camp most of the way, but I play it by ear. The rest is up in the air for the moment!

That's pretty cool. All of my family on my moms side lives in blind river/algoma. Me and my buddy were going to take the jeep with a trailer up there and check out the roads.

If off-roading with a jeep, miles of logging roads off Hwy129. Hwy's are mint around there too. Rapids next to 129 are great, bring a tube and take turns going down. I'll be posting a travel plan when I have dates, but Aug long weekend is pretty much a lock.

Got a trip planned to Bangor Maine through New York, New Hampshire and Vermont. And back. Doing that trip twice. Have a trip planned from the gta through tobermory across the ferry to Manitoulin island and then to Sudbury and back on a weekend. And on final trip to North Carolina in the fall. 4 amazing trips planned and then day trips as well. This is going to be an awesome season. Hoping for 15,000 - 20,000 km this year if all goes well.

Wish me luck

I did this trip last year except i kept going into NB then Quebec and back into ontario. The roads in NY, NH and Vermont are amazing.

My new job dictates me to take a week tour every two weeks of work, so for touring ill move my bike from one storage location to another. It will just cost me airfare to get to the storage and back.

I have 4 trips already planned.. June: 2 day trip to Pensylvania with wife, 2 day trip to Ottawa area solo. July: Owen Sound Tobermory Manitoulin. Solo. Mid July 2 wk trip to Cabot Trail through New York Vermot New Hampshire Main New Brunswick Nova Scotia with the Wife. I go several times to Owen Sound during riding season to visit family.

Blue Ridge mountains and Deals is on my bucket list along with a trip to Vancouver. Not sure my wife would come with me on that one. We'll see how the Cabot Trail goes.

Then whatever comes me way through the ride group - 1 or 2 day trips on the weekends.

I don't book hotels/motels in advance (I don't do camping), but have motels picked out in advance and alternates in case we don't make it to the area in time.. With the ride group I would, but haven't gone overnight with them yet.

I don't ride in the dark (usualy) - would hate to see the bright eyes of a deer or moose as I'm coming round the bend doing 90 or 100kmh. That just doesn't sit well with me. It's dangerous enough with women in mini vans/suv's

Summer trip- My son's team is playing AAA ball in South Bend, Indiana (Home of Notré Dame University) at the 16U World Series during the third week of July. His mom can't go.

It's a week long tournament, and the team will charter a bus, so for me, it's the perfect excuse to follow along on a nice 7 hour bike ride.

We usually stay in nice hotels and eat decent food & the adults like to party at these tournaments.

Added bonus - I'll have my bike there.
