2013 Touring Plans

Hey guys,
Well since most of the bikes are stored away for the winter how do you fill your fix in the meantime? Personally I'm looking at some touring options for next year. Looking at 1-3 day trips. Some solo and some with the gf (shorter rides with her).

One of the nice things to see at the show last weekend (to me anyway) was the presence of Tourism Ontario promoting motorcycling in the province. They had various regions set up with maps, guides, along with accomodations and lookouts plotted along the routes. An interesting one was the Top 10 Roads in Ontario. Most of them are fairly north but interesting regardless.

How about you guys? What's on plan for 2013? Local rides? South of the border?

I think I'll have two weeks off from work, so I'm planning to go west until I hit salt water

Probably local day or overnighter stuff for me.

I did a solo weekend trip to Ottawa in June. I told my wife a lot about the trip, and I'd like to take her through a similar route next summer. If I could find a weekend she was working, would be interested in an overnight trip to PA and back.

I am of course tempted by the Blue Ridge and Tail of the Dragon area... but we'll see.

Contemplating a 2 week tour in 2013. Either spring or fall.
Since I don't have a street bike. I'm planning on flying to the west coast and renting.
Still in the planning stages.

PA to visit my godfather

QC to visit friends

I'm looking at a trip to Newfoundland with my son next summer but, if he chickens out, it's off to the Blue Ridge Mountains again. I also have various weekend trips here and there in the planning stages.

That sounds like some good planned trips guys! Matthew which way are you going? Any particular route?

Hondu.. Did u ride the Ottawa valley area? How was that? I've heard great things about that region.

when you guys typically plan do you like to have a set schedule and stops or do you just roll with it and stop/turn whenever you feel like it? Do you like going solo or with a buddy or two?

it will be a fight this year between track and touring this year. what do you mean by bikes stored? remember last 'winter'?

I sure hope we have the same winter as last year! Im keeping the bike stored closer this year so it's always available. I guess the only issue is ensuring it gets washed right after due to salt.

So, you are both planning to go and see the Great Salt Lake in Utah :D ?

I was actually pretty close to Salt Lake last year when I was in Colorado.
I would love to make it all the way to Portland and ride the 101 down to the PCH
Problem is I was planning on spending a few more days in Colorado next year.
But that's the great thing about trip's like that.....come and go as you please :)

Set schedules r good if u have limited time & want to see alot. Disadvantage is u feel pressured & feels like work. I like no sched if possible, gets my sense of adventure going.

I also like smaller groups, dont have to cater to too much wants & needs. Plus there are those who needs a smoke break or just like to talk more than ride

Don't know how much stock I would hold into this list.
For years they had RT66 on it and from what I'm hearing #14 shouldn't even be on there.

From Angles Crest Highway to Death Valley, this set of Southern US routes is pretty awesome:

San Francisco to Harbin Hot Springs through Napa
Texas Big Bend National Park along the Texas and Mexico border
Denton Texas loop through the Dallas-Forthworth area
Technical riding in Texas from Austin to Marble Falls
Oregon Coast Highway from Astoria to Brookings
Coronado Trail from Clifton to Eagar through Apache National Forest
The Angeles Crest Highway from La Canada Flintridge to Wrightwood
Death Valley journey from Lone Pine to Pahrump
Red Bluff to Fortuna, California: 140 miles of twisties
Malibu to Rock Store

For details on each route, check out http://eatsleepride.com/c/11279

Yea, we all need more vacation days though. Too bad my job doesn't exactly pay me for being a riding bum.
