2011 Moto GP?

Apparently, if you've done it long enough, your ear will know ... I am not trying to be funny.
The rider will have a number of settings that they can use during the race, the really good riders like to have as little interference as possible. If you're standing trackside, it's pretty clear who's using the system most or least.
*edit* Also remember that the electronics package is much more than just TC, anti-wheelie is a huge advantage and no one turns it down.

It all makes sense .... since Stoner switched to Honda and the Honda bikes having almost all fuel under the rider's seat and Stoner's easy settings on most of the electronic aids, he commented that his problem is that one of very few issues for him is that the bike wants to wheelie out of every corner hard and he's struggling to keep the wheels on the ground. There are not many corners where he doesn't come out on one wheel. He clearly mentioned that he would like to crank the anti-wheelie up, but it brings up negatives with it, hence him keeping it setting rather low and living with it. I think their gear box is contributing to this as well, since the shifts are so quick that they are virtually seemless.

aren't the newer systems controlling the throttle not just cutting spark etc which would make it more difficult to detect?

You're right, there won't be popping from a harsh ignition cut, there are pre-programmed fuel/ignition maps that the ECU switches to as required hundreds of times/sec. you can visually compare the dynamics of the bikes as they pass trackside and tell who's using body position/line/rear tire and who's using the electronics.

Just a friendly reminder that this weekend's race at Assen takes place Saturday morning (9am EST), not Sunday.

Why is 125 and Moto2 main race already on motogp.com but not the gp main race?

A BIG congrats to the winner!!!!
Very happy for him :D

Interesting race!! Don't know if it was the camera coverage on BBC but it seemed to show a lot more of the speed and lean angle than usual. Incredible stuff.

Well deserved win. :)

LOL @ Lorenzo.

Suck it.

Yea almost all run away races so far....

Was this a case of Yamaha finding that extra something or just a case of being set up better than Honda?

Hope this lvls out and we can see a long awaited battle for first place. And I don't mean someone following till five laps to go and then running off after an easy pass.

It's looking like those years where (in F1) all you had to do was drive the Williams and you were WC. :(

Here's an interesting statistic:

In the 800cc era, Ben Spies is the only non-alien to win a MotoGP race in the dry.

He is only one of 4 non-aliens who have taken 800cc victories. The only other winners have been Vermeulen (2007 Le Mans in the rain), Capiroissi (2007 Motegi in the rain) and Dovizioso (2009 Donington in the rain).

Every other MotoGP race since 2007 has been won by either Stoner (27 wins), Rossi (21), Lorenzo (15) or Pedrosa (11). Together over the last 5 seasons, they've won a total of 74 races out of 78.

So who are the "Aliens"
Rosi, Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa?
