So, I got the car, and pretty happy with it so far.
I've been driving it like a granma - never passing 3k rpm - and the only thing Im not happy is the 10L+ /100km.
That was my expectation anyways accordingly to fuelly.com, but it def hurts the wallet =)
One strange issue atm is the vibrating throttle pedal. Everytime the doors lock itself, the throttle pedal eases the pressure to my foot for just a second. It feels like it vibrates. Does that make any sense ?
the lower control arms will probably need to be replaced
you probably need a 4 wheel brake service or job if the brakes dont feel right.
This was exactly it. Prior to safety, owner had to change/fix the lower control arms.
Brakes were repaired 20k ago apparently. How much life on avg. do I have on them ?
I'd put my money on sh1tty "lifetime warranty" brake pads. I have no clue how people drive around on those things.
Ugur, why an Escape? A car that hasn't been particularly good from day one. If you're stuck on a mini-suv, for $12k, you can get yourself an '05-06 CR-V with similar mileage. A much better car in every way. Or if you don't mind a compact, you could probably find a newer Civic with lower mileage for around the same price.
Thanks to Zipcar, I got to drive quite a variety of cars, including the new CR-V and latest 2 gens of Civics.
CR-V felt very underpowered, and the Civic is, statistically, the most killing car in Ont, hiking the insurance coefficient to top. The new Civic is just horrible. The whole car waggles all over the place, like no other car, while braking and/or cornering. + cheap quality interior, funny looks, terrible audio, less sporty drive than the prev Civic... I just didn't like that car at all.
Escape wasn't on my wishlist either, but for the money, it's quite a car, IMO. I find it comfortable in right size, with the right features, and at the right price.
It's also not a playful car, for example like a Cooper, so that will help me keep my license =)
I will park the car from Apr to Nov, and I expect that I won't be putting a lot of kms on it. So, maintenance/reliability wasn't the highest priority in the purchase.
