2009 Ford Escape I4 4WD

you probably need a 4 wheel brake service or job if the brakes dont feel right.

I'd put my money on sh1tty "lifetime warranty" brake pads. I have no clue how people drive around on those things.

Ugur, why an Escape? A car that hasn't been particularly good from day one. If you're stuck on a mini-suv, for $12k, you can get yourself an '05-06 CR-V with similar mileage. A much better car in every way. Or if you don't mind a compact, you could probably find a newer Civic with lower mileage for around the same price.

how about.....Found On the Road Dead? :)

OP: My brother in law has a 2006 V-6 FWD version, bought it at 45k now it has 120k....only thing we did was put a set of front brakes on it as well as regular oil changes. And he doens't drive like a granpa or knows anything about cars/trucks....

To be safe - get it Krown'd...the older models have rust isuses...but 2009 ..perhaps not. Lakeshore Krown runs a special...sign up on Jeep Forum Canada...$105 + tax for a 4 door truck. Regular is $125 + TAX.

How about, Fix Or Repair Daily

No, and No, and just waiting for gov't saved US automakers to consistently put out good products.

:laughing3:

No to the first two, so just anti north american?
The Civic was crucified in reviews and yet you recommend it too your friend!

You are anti apple ( most valuable company in the world), anti RIM, anti Ford which never was bailed out, so whats the story? Are you pro any north american company?

The Japs and now Koreans have been protecting their auto industries with devaluing their Currency and not allowing imports for decades. The american car industry had 2 million workers at its peak........after allowing imports there is a loss of marketshare and downsizing, but there is still all those pensioners collecting pensions and benefits, its not possible to compete. Just the health benefits work out to $1200 per car, nevermind the 5 retirees per every worker. Did you honestly think the govt would let all those pensioners who pay huge taxes lose those pensions? Not likely.

The only Ford I owned that was unreliable was my 5.0L Mustang. I should never have bought it.

1978 Bronco
1981 F150
1988 T Bird
2002 Ranger
2007 Edge

They have all been reliable for me.

I owned a '92 Cougar, the absolute least reliable car in the world based on my experience. Still can't believe how much money I spent on fixing it, cut my losses when it was only 9 years/130k km too.

When it comes to cars, you can't trust individual experiences but rather the aggregate. There are some people out there that will tell you a Hyundai Pony, or one of the Chrysler K cars are super reliable. Most owners will say otherwise though.

You sure about that?
I had a 2010 4.6l 3valve and I had no problems towing my 7800lb travel trailer around.
Also got an average of 14.5 L/100
and around 11.2 L/100 on the hyw.
Was a great truck and had 0 issues with it in 80k. Just sold it because didnt need it anymore, but I wouldn't hesitate for an instant to get another.
On a side note the ecoboost engine got worse fuel economy on a trip to the gap then my 4.6l did.

Im assuming you were towing with the ecoboost?

I went down to Georgia and back with my F150 Ecoboost and i was doing 10 l/100 km 95% of the time there and back.

If your going to buy a truck to tow with on a regular basis, the Ecoboost is not the engine for you.

Same load of both trucks with only 2 bikes. Only difference I could think of was the diff ratio.

I traded in my Ranger with 297000 km on it. Under my care I had to replace brakes, rear brake cylinder and a wheel bearing.

Still had the original clutch. I had a front hub go but that was at least partially due to it being lifted with 33" Pro Comps.

The current Ford I drive just about everyday currently has well over 400k on it.

The OP asked for thoughts on a 09 Ford Escape. Obviously, my thoughts, which are proven as much as possible with links to back them up, are not popular in this thread. Thats OK! Please feel free to move on to the next post!

I wouldn't touch a Ford Escape if I had to pay for it with my own money.
There are better used choices........

Coincidence that all the US makes languished at or near the bottom of the list?

never read the whole thread, but i owned an 05 escape AWD and it was a pig on gas. After changing the comp, all coils. plugs and transfer case. it was fun to drive for a couple days, then i sold it. really didn't trust the reliability of it.

I own a transmission shop, and the CD4E transmission that is in these trucks are known to fail. I would give it a 6 out of 10

So, I got the car, and pretty happy with it so far.

I've been driving it like a granma - never passing 3k rpm - and the only thing Im not happy is the 10L+ /100km.

That was my expectation anyways accordingly to fuelly.com, but it def hurts the wallet =)

One strange issue atm is the vibrating throttle pedal. Everytime the doors lock itself, the throttle pedal eases the pressure to my foot for just a second. It feels like it vibrates. Does that make any sense ?

the lower control arms will probably need to be replaced

This was exactly it. Prior to safety, owner had to change/fix the lower control arms.
Brakes were repaired 20k ago apparently. How much life on avg. do I have on them ?

Thanks to Zipcar, I got to drive quite a variety of cars, including the new CR-V and latest 2 gens of Civics.
CR-V felt very underpowered, and the Civic is, statistically, the most killing car in Ont, hiking the insurance coefficient to top. The new Civic is just horrible. The whole car waggles all over the place, like no other car, while braking and/or cornering. + cheap quality interior, funny looks, terrible audio, less sporty drive than the prev Civic... I just didn't like that car at all.

Escape wasn't on my wishlist either, but for the money, it's quite a car, IMO. I find it comfortable in right size, with the right features, and at the right price.
It's also not a playful car, for example like a Cooper, so that will help me keep my license =)
I will park the car from Apr to Nov, and I expect that I won't be putting a lot of kms on it. So, maintenance/reliability wasn't the highest priority in the purchase.

That sucks... my 2012 ram 1500 with the Hemi does about 650 per 90L tank on the highway if I'm nice to it... I have nursed it past that once or twice, but I was really babying it... I hit something like 690 before my light came on.

my 97 ram 2500 5.9L cummins gets about 1100k's to a tank. to fill when empty takes 135bucks. to lazy to do the math but i don't think its to bad

My wife has a 2007 escape she bought new in 07, it a v6 4wd it has 213,xxx km on it, since then I did a complete brake job, one rear parking assist sensor went ($50 on ebay) aand just 2 weeks ago the alternator went, bought a rebuilt one for $160 and installed myself....took just over 2 hours...and its a real bugger to do, but that all the problems we have had with it, I change the oil regular with Rotella T synthetic and every other change I drain 4 quarts from tranny and throw in fresh 4 quarts, as the filter is internal on these babies. I rust check it every year and it still drive nice and tight. The big thing is taking care of it, yes the trannies can be expensive but take care of it and it will do the same back, now as for the I4 I have no experience with them.
