Hey Guys and Gals!

I am looking at buying one of these two bikes in the coming weeks (if we ever can lose the snow...). I was wondering about any common issues to look out for when checking out/owning one of these bikes. They are Japanese so I expect their quality to be very good but just covering all my bases.

If you own/have owned one or more of the bikes in the stated year range state the year and model you owned and what your experiences were with it. If you have owned/had experience with multiple years of a bike it would be greatly appreciated if you could briefly compare them (not expecting much of a change year to year but if there are particular things to look out for it would be good to hear from those with experience).

Cheers!

That's a really huge gap in motorcycle years. There were generational changes in that time frame, redesigns, etc.

But yeah, 03-05 R6. Can't go wrong.

Yeah I am aware that there have been a few generations but I am looking a few different bikes over the range. I have heard many good things about the 03-05 R6, thanks for your input!

CBR RR no issues that I am aware of. They both have extremely different seating positions so go check that out first.

One would think if you're going to consider an 09, maybe almost look at new ones? The price won't be that different unless you find one privately with an owner who isn't on crack and asks a reasonable amount for their bike. I have been looking at an 09 gsxr and I found out for not much more that I can have a new 2012. Just a thought.

Hadn't really considered new but I will look into most 09s I have seen are in the 7-8000 range, where as a 2012 would run me about 10 or so wouldn't it? I think my ideal age is 2006-2008.

OP, go to a dealer or whenever the next show is, and sit on as many as you can sit on. Whichever feels most comfortable, pick that one.
Performance wise, the differences are negligible. It's what you feel most comfortable on. If you plan on doing long haul (what's your definition of long haul? 50km? 500km? or 5000km?) maybe look into VFR's or something of the like.

When I say long haul I mean 4-5 hours (went to school and have friends in London which is about 3.5-4.5 hrs away from my current location so likely the longest trip for me would be there.)

All the bikes you're considering will handle that no problem, might want to invest in a Corbin seat or something similar.

I thought they would, thanks for your help!

only thing with these SS bikes, depending on your weight or how much gear you're carrying, you could be stopping every 200ish km's for gas. Keep that in mind. If you need further distance out of a tank, there are many non-SS options to consider as well.
