2 day Pennsylvania Ride

heading down to the area mon and tues. was thinking of staying in williamsport or st mary's but all the hotels are booked...wtf
do i need to call ahead at pauls?

If you get a chance PLEASE! hit the 445 from Brush Valley Rd. to Nittany Valley Dr. (S. to N.) you will not be dissapointed, make your first pass a slow one, there's a couple of hairpins. Google map it. Check it out. Freshly paved this summer.

Its a popular area in the fall for foliage viewing. Don't have a phone number for Paul's but it does have a website. When I was there, I had made a reservation there was only one other person, but it doesn't hurt to check. Cost me $51 for a single. Last weekend stayed in St. Mary's at a place called Gunners Roadhouse and Inn, but a little expensive - $83 with tax for a single. There a lot of little mom and pop motels off of Highway 6 between Coudersport and Wellsboro which don't show up in brower searches.

Another place I stayed at just over $50 was Kettle Creek Inn on Rte 120, just west of Renovo - again I did make a reservation there and they were actually full the 2 nights I stayed. They also have an attached restaurant and are in a beautiful area.

Alot of the cheaper hotels are also booked up due to the gas workers in the area. I ended up on Lock Haven @ a ****** but relatively clean place "Lock Haven Motel" @ exit 109 on Hwy 220. There were lots of hotels/motels, B&B's there as well, right on 120.

Out in the North Atlantic near Iceland but looking to ride into the PA area when I get back in 10 days. Just wondering how the colours were progressing this year.

Some fabulous riding areas in Norway - pics when I get a high speed connection - one is simply breath taking and I would think heart stopping if you met a tour bus on it.

Pay the extra $2 at Pauls and you get a better room in the main building with consistent WifI. The rear section is okay but the rooms are getting a bit musty tho it's nice to have the bike right at the door.

I'd call ahead - nice people for sure. Fezz Diner just up the road fine for breakfast. Lots of layers this time of year as it can swing from 4 degrees in the morning to 30 in the afternoon.

See ya there.

I'm also heading down the first week of October, plan on going during the week to avoid leaf looker traffic on the weekend. Thanks to everyone for posting hotel/route info.

I’ve been jotting down information from this thread and it’s time to thank everyone for the helpful tips.

We stayed in Coudersport, Westgate Inn – convenient $82 +tx – simple self serve breakfast.
Other options could have been: Terrace Motel, a 10 minute walk into town to the famous Wellsboro Diner. The other was the Sherwood Motel, right in Wellsboro. Both are reasonably priced.

There were isolated showers and anticipated colder temperatures.
Wearing heated gear was an asset.

We rode the most popular routes south of Coudersport and Wellsboro that were recommended on this thread, including a visit to Hyner View, Cherry Creek and Kettle Creek, 44/144, all the others and lunching in Renovo. We appreciated the dopamine thrill of the twisties and ribbons of curves. The visual beauty of flaming autumn colours was gorgeous this past weekend but I think it may be spectacular on the Thanksgiving weekend. Same in New York.

I needed a mechanic shop to assist me with a cinched wire that blew a fuse and I discovered E & G Auto Plus, on 6 just west of Coudersport. This was a positive interchange with the locals and

I am grateful for their part in getting me back on the road.

Other Motorcycle shops: Denton Hill has an independent shop on Route 6. Canyon Motorsports on Route 6, east of Galeton. Larrys Harley, Yamaha & Suzuki between Coudersport and Galeton on #6. Honda east Of Galeton on 6. There are others – good to know just in case.

Once again to all, Thanx

The rooms at the back of Paul's Citgo aren't fit for dogs. As you mentioned very musty smelling and worn out furnishings. Never been to the newer rooms though.

Looks like we missed each other again. I just got back from PA today. Left Saturday afternoon. Stayed in Batavia NY first night, then toured Letchworth State Park Sunday morning before heading to Wellsboro PA for the night. Spent Monday night in Warren PA before heading home. Letchworth was a pleasant surprise. The colours were close to peak.

emailed Paul's to see how space is.
Carmen what's some alternatives there?

Still undecided - being a wimp about chilly riding even with the new windscreen which I know will be a big help.
Not enough touring this year and getting set to do more in Australia this year - got a new seat and screen for the KLR650. :D They just fit in my suitcase.

I think it’s more interesting that we both ping around in different orbits, then share the travel tips and
experiences. I’m still trying to catch up to all the routes you have ridden.

wish I was going today - nicest two days :( Was lovely riding yesterday and sat in the sun at the Forks and worked and drank too many coffees ;)
Wanted to just hit the border and keep going for a couple of quiet days. A long weekend with traffic plus chillier is giving me pause.

Here is an easy to read 7 day forecast

Did you hear back from Pauls'? I had spoken to Ruth last week and she mentioned the fall colours were well before peak and that most of the rooms were available. I'm jealous of your new windscreen and your arrangment in Australia! But I'm getting a set of Hippo Hands!

I usually stay in Wellsboro at the Canyon Motel. Prices are $75.00, they are spotless and smell great. You get what you pay for. I also highly recommend the Wellsboro House for dinner in Wellsboro. Great food, and prices and friendly staff. It is a hidden jewel. Trip Advisor gives 4 stars. The owner is from Philly and walks around talking to the guests like every one is his buddy. Sherwood Motel is also good in Wellsboro but it's hard to get a room at short notice.

I think you've ridden to more places than I have.

Another decent hotel in Coudersport is the Laurelwood Inn just down the road from Paul's. Rooms are around $55 free wifi and they have a steakhouse and bar attached to the hotel. Awesome steaks!!!!!

Owners are biker friendly. They will loan out coolers if you ask and they even have a basket of towels left out to wipe the dew off your bike in the morning.
