    oioioi is a StromTrooper

Had the 1st year DL1000 in 2002. It had the clutch 'chudder' so had to replace the basket but after that, ran well for the next 5 yrs. Bought a NC750 this past spring but am keeping an eye on a Vstrom upgrade hopefully next year. Let us know your thoughts on yours over time.

Harley Davidson Leather "Motorclothes" - Fashion or Function?

Yup, likewise. Over ten year old pair but still of good quality.

Bike won't start after dropping it

I think Suzuki was the only brand that had that POS clutch lever activated start switch. I may be wrong however but it was a pain when it got dirty over time and didn't activate and of course it was always at an inopportune time.

    Flying Squirrel?

I had great transactions with them but I could sense there was some internal mgt issues.

    Ruben McMurter

Thanks will check that out. But my originial query was if anyone on GTAM knew him well in those days of glory.

    Ruben McMurter

He used to be a Canadian bike race champ sponsored by Kawasaki and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. I went to school with him and trying to track him down. Not much on a Google search. Does anyone recall him or heard of his whereabouts ?

    Da 'Wave'

There is an interesting discussion going on the GTAM FB site criticizing folks that don't acknowledge the infamous wave back. Here was my response: "Don't take it so hard. The origins delve back to the '60s when bikers gave the equivalent to the 'thumbs-up' that the road ahead was clear of...

    aprillia 250 twin

Looks good but expensive. I miss the days when we could hold the throttle open (before factory cut-offs) and wring the living hell out of the smaller singles and twins to test their stamina. I recall my buddy could buried his Suzuki to 16K rpm when it had a 10K redline, and that was when...

    Buying bearings

I rebuild a lot of old Mercury race engines and always find that the NOS factory bearings are either getting stupid expensive or NLA. I never had any issues with the aftermarket bearings except some Chinese versions. Some propiatary versions were always tough to source but I found lots of them...

    Faulty points??

Grey Ghost nailed it. If bad points or weak condensor, your bike would feel like it is shutting down in a jerking fashion under various throttle positions due to intermittent spark. If things get worse as the bikes warms up suggest you have a coil load tester handy as it would be worth...

    Warranty dumb question

Been driving in Mississauga lately with our numerous sunken manhole lids? Back in July I sent a list of a dozen locations near me to the Transportation and Works hot line. Not one has been raised. I can't wait until the Mayor and Councillor incumbents come knocking on my door looking for my vote.

Just placed an order. For folks that dealt with them, how was your experience ?

    Touring Tires

The new ones are also 009's. I am maintaining the same air pressures. Interesting on the noise and road feel comments. I'll report back on that. Thanks

    Touring Tires

It's an '05 1200 model. I had a 1250 and had too many FI problems so unloaded it.

    Touring Tires

Got new Shinko touring tires recently installed on the Bandit. I was told to expect up to 12K km with them but who knows. That would work out to two summers worth of riding as I have a 2nd bike to alternate altho I had a recent foot injury and as luck would have it, it was my shifting foot so...

    Hwy 407 question.

Don't know if this question was ever answered but the west end 407 cameras were modified a few years ago to catch all angles of the tarmac such that we couldn't crawl along the side walls anymore to avoid the pic. It was great while it lasted tho....

When is it time to get another bike?

Also, the older Vstrom 1000's had clutch basket issues requiring replacements.

    1980 Honda XL500S FS

For Sale: Honda XL500S (1980) Picked this gem up recently as a parts bike for my '81, same model. Realized on further inspection that it is an excellent candidate for a full resto as it retains about 95% of original parts so having trouble yanking stuff off of it. Has good compression and the...
