Well, but that's a 200cc. Mine was 400cc. Believe me I looked, but didn't see any 2012-2016 400s listed for that little in Ontario. Maybe I missed one, but I was looking assiduously.
OK, but a profit is actually the opposite of a loss. My point is that insurance companies are not in the business of breaking even. They are in the business of making as much money as possible. Saying that they are trying to minimize their losses makes it sound like they lose money covering...
Well sure, someone could possibly do that, but if the ads were from legitimate dealers (which mine were), the insurance company could easily verify.
Correction: they are trying to spend as little as possible to maximize their profits. I think TD (and most banks and insurance companies) are...
Thought I should follow up on this thread since it is now resolved. TD stuck to their line that the only negotiation they would entertain is from a professional appraiser hired by me. I had difficulty finding an appraiser who would write a report for a reasonable fee.
But eventually I...
A little more research last night indicates that JD Power owns NADA valuation guides. (Ironic because nada means "nothing" in Spanish.) According to this article, two sources of valuation for motorcycles are Kelley Blue Book, and NADA, but NADA is preferred by insurance companies, probably...
Unfortunately the shop says that there's frame damage. I think in reality they are covering their butts with regards to liability. In other words, the frame could potentially be damaged but they aren't positive. In any case, I think it will be (or already is) marked as irreparable.
Curious what...
Update on the story: my adjuster from TD called to say that my claim did little to warm their frosty hearts because they only use the JD Power valuation. The only hope they could offer me is to send my email on to JD Power which might then change the valuation. I will hear back in a couple days...
Also, there are some used 2018s for less than $6000 in Montreal it’s true, but that doesn’t do me much good. It’s impractical for me to look much outside the GTA.
I take your point, but I believe my ask was fair and backed up with facts. (Also, it was less than $7500.)
I looked for all the listings in Ontario for the same model bike 2012-2016 (so a two year range above and below mine). There were four listings, three from dealers, with an average price...
Boring, but I really did like my old bike. So my plan is to find pretty much the same thing. I could be convinced to go in another direction, but what I like about the Burgman is storage (62 litres under the seat) and fuel economy. If I could equal those features in a bike with the the same or...
Thanks, everyone. I’ve made my counter. Nearly double their offer. I’ll stick to my guns. I hadn’t realized that this process often involves so much negotiation. My eyes have been opened!
Sad that they feel the need to play these games with their customers, but I’ll play if that’s what’s required.
Appreciate the advice from everyone. I’ll follow
up with the adjuster tomorrow. As far as suing for the price of the bike, the driver who caused the collision was from the U.S., so...
Follow-up on my story from here (+ Why we crash +): my insurance company has declared my bike a total loss. This is not surprising at this point, as the garage already showed me that their estimate to repair the bike (2014 Burgman 400) was about $13,000 – higher than the value of a brand new...
Just to follow up and maybe add a bit of advice to future people who find themselves in this situation.
I went to the DriveTest centre today. After waiting over an hour for my number to be called (grrr) I finally spoke to a gentleman at a wicket who insisted that the G class licence is a...
Thanks for the support! Everyone has asked me if the other driver apologized. Ha! That would be the day. To be fair, though, insurance companies advices their policy holders never to apologize. At least we both agreed that it wasn't how we'd hoped to start our days.
My bike is/was a Suzuki...
I was in a collision on the way to work on Tuesday. I'm a little bruised but thankfully nothing worse. The bike though will hopefully be reparable, but the front sustained a lot of damage, mainly to the tupperware.
I was riding on Eglinton West going east from Oakwood to the Allen in the right...
Thanks, MangoRider. Your situation sounds similar to mine. I guess I'll go to the DriveTest centre prepared to rewrite the G1 test and armed with patience, since as you say, most people go in the other direction (car to bike rather than bike to car). As long as I can write the G1 and then...
I have a question about licensing in Ontario. I have a full M licence but have never been licensed to drive a car. One of the conditions of the M licence is that you are able to drive "Class G vehicles under the conditions that apply to a Class G1 licence."
So with that in mind, I've been...
