Canada Post - Huge losses

It looks like it was sent courier instead of USPS. I wonder if they’ll tack on a stupid handling fee.

It started in Texas then California, Illinois, customs
Well this is suspect. To my knowledge there's zero chance it was Canada Post courier, because they don't even have a wave early enough for 7.20a.m. delivery. If CP does have it I suspect it's really at a depot and someone fudged the scan. You can almost always tell when stuff should be attempted that day because by 10-11am it will say 'Out for Delivery', that means it was scanned onto the truck by the courier.

Awesome. They'll drop off my stuff in the box mounted on the wall beside my front door just like the CP professional walker.

Bonus: they won't contribute to the trail across my front lawn.
Simply put up a sign saying "Please stay off the grass."
Done deal.
They walk across it again, call in a complaint. Letter carrier will get ******* at. Keep reporting it as necessary. After 3rd report LC will be suspended without pay for a week.

I delivered advertising flyers over a half century ago and we weren’t allowed to walk across lawns. As the new guy I got Parkside Drive where all the houses were up a long flight of stairs.

For me, as long as the LC didn’t tromp on any flowers, walking across my lawn doesn’t bother me. Dogs peeing in the same spot all the time do more damage.

I hear you…
Some people don’t care about their lawn being walked on, others do.
If I ever walk across a person’s lawn, it’s usually only after they have told me it’s OK to do so, and then I always take a slightly different path so I’m not stomping on the same blades of grass every day etc.

And the flip side to the lawn cutting, CP posties trampled my downspout. At least they know where to walk now...
I've tried telling them not to walk across, but let's just say communication isn't CP strongest point, that info fails to get to where it needs to go... surprised not really.

Or it gets there and the care factor is zero

Bear traps under the snow usually gets the message across. :ROFLMAO:

Damn,

My package arrived this morning, shoved through the slot. It didn't feel right.

It was one of those plastic envelopes sealed for life. I slashed it open and it contained one of the three parts I ordered, a packing slip showing three items shipped and an apology from CP that the item of mail was damaged during its processing.

"We sincerely regret this unfortunate incident and apologize for any inconvenience caused"

blah, blah blah

Yours sincerely

The only thing that remains of the original pack is the label and it appears to be stuck to a bubble wrap backed manila envelope. I can't completely blame CP if the key part of the order, a lawn mower blade, chewed its way through in its journey from Texas, California, Illinois, customs and to Toronto. Now start all over.

And why should they be funded with my tax dollars. It was always $1.4B and now they want $2B to $2.5B. Really? And then giving multiple bonuses to the top dogs at CBC who cannot produce a profit. Fire them!

According to the internet and not some forum, CTV does not get funding or subsidies from the government. Why can't the CBC do that? CBC has a viewership of less than 3% and that might be the problem, so fix that.
Clever wording. CTV is heavily subsidized. CBC gets billions in direct payments by the government, CTV (Bell Media) gets several forms of indirect government support. The Canadian government provides tax credits and grants to broadcasters and content creators, including Bell Media, through programs like the Canada Media Fund (CMF).

The CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) forces cable providers to carry and pay CTV on all networks, guaranteeing income with no consumer opt out.

CTV gets a subsidy through the Online News Act which forces Google and Meta to pay support to Canadian news outlets.
And if you want the CBC, take out a subscription like Prime or Netflix. Oh and by the way, the BBC has lost quite a few subscribers and their rate per year is something like GBP 190 or about $420.

Define "indirect government support" and who would that be specifically? And is that support in the $ billions?

And a tax credit is not really funding or a subsidy.

It's a refundable tax credit of 25% of the salaries. A refundable tax credit is real funding as cheques are flowing out to media. Cbc is the only media that gets billions. The rest split hundreds of millions.

I rest my case.

Like anything, stop blowing my tax dollars on foreign aid or charities aka money laundering, government propaganda aka media, etc. Instead, generate funds from private individuals who have a bleeding heart or want the service (and pay for it like Netflix, Prime, etc). I take a flight anywhere, my airport fees are in the hundreds...no free rides.

.
Subsidies come in the form of direct funding, and any form of tax-credits, regulatory protections, that are industry specific.

The Canadian media fund provides subsidies to CTV to create content. Specific anmounts are not disclosed, however the fund claims it subsidizes between 20-25% of Canadian production cost. Telefilm Canada funds documentary contend for CTV. Overall these 2 funds plunk $500 million into Canadian productions each year.

CTV gets taxpayer subsidized tax credits. It’s hard to see precisely how much they get in indirect supports, but they get Federal & Provincial Tax Credits.
  • Canadian Film / Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC) - 25% on eligible Canadian production costs..
  • Provincial film tax credits vary by province. CTV gets the Ontario Film & Television Tax Credit - 35% of their Canadian labour costs..
CTV has regulatory protection that subsidizes revenue thru protection guarantees. Cable providers must distribute and pay CTV - Canadian cable customers subsidize this whether they watch CTV or not.

There is only one taxpayer, so tax credits, grants, regulators user fees, market protections are taxpayer funded subsidies.
