The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

How someone mistakes "cruise control" for "autopilot", after completing a Class A license requirement, is frankly beyond me.
Was it a mistake or just a dice roll that worked out the last few times they did it? You can get away with no steering input for a few seconds (if you assume that nothing in front of you requires you to change your path).

Oh, it was definitely a knowing choice.

Monday we drove to Woodstock along the 403 and saw traffic backing up on the westbound 403 in Brantford. I took the first exit I could and bypassed the problem. Coming back several hours later the westbound traffic was backed up several miles.

It turns out that a low flatbed trailer can't fit under a bridge if it has a big excavator on the deck. Bridge inspection etc.

Many years ago I had that problem and the MOT was able to do routing to avoid obstacles. Sometimes it made for a long drive. I also wonder if distractions come into play. The driver may have known the height and knew to watch for low bridges but got into a phone call and "Ooops"

Ignore the caption. If that happened it was minor. While obviously the two people driving fast are worthy of this thread, the interesting part for me is everybody else. Typical of GTA traffic, right lane is often empty, people are scattered all over the road and some people in the middle lane are going well below the speed limit. It's a complete cluster.

Because of this you can frequently do 100+ in the right lane on 401, between 427 and Dixie, while all the other lanes are 60-.

Obviously not a BMW.

Shhh, don't tell anyone. That's always been my lane. Everyone is in such a hurry to move over to the left lane that it is usually empty.
Just be careful of all the people who are coming all the way over from the left to exit at Dixie Road, at the last second ;)

Not Ontario. I'm in Costa Rica. A little bumper bash from cell phone use takes a long time to clear. The shoulderless roads makes for a huge traffic jam. Except for the bikes that split lanes. Even a minor one has Ambulancia show up. We have been stuck twice for an hour each time. You can smell the coolant in the 36 deg heat.

Wow. That's more blatant than I've seen before. Lots of people looking at screens while driving but normally they are looking in their lap (unless they are driving an 18 wheeler, then they sometimes have tablet on the dash or wheel).

I was driving along Airport RD a few years back and was surprised at the size of the GPS in the car ahead. As I got closer at a light, nope he was watching a movie. 100 KPH is 91 feet per second.

My cousin's a trucker and one day his oversized load got stuck in a tunnel. Funny thing was he was following the route that had been "approved" in advance. He wasn't punished.

Years back when KFC was Kentucky Fried Chicken a friend saw a giant bucket sign on the DVP on a float truck and it was wedged under a bridge like a cork. The road was uphill but the ceiling of the tunnel was parallel to the ground.

A friend had the decision made for him to buy a new pickup truck. He was heading back from London on the 401 (Right lane) and slowed down because of a car in front of him doing something odd. When he looked in his rear-view mirror, he realized the semi behind him wasn't slowing down so he tried to get onto the shoulder but didn't quite make it.

The semi tried to move left but only succeeded in hitting another vehicle. When everything came to a halt there were two vehicles in the ditch and no semi in sight. Fortunately there were no injuries but vehicles and tools will be well over $100K. Dry roads and no unusual weather conditions.

The OPP eventually caught up with the semi when it broke down from the damage. Apparently the driver was taken away in handcuffs, was driving while suspended and had a bad history, soon to be worse.

Part 1 Why was the car in front of him driving slow and edging off onto the shoulder? The last time I saw that the vehicle had just pulled out of a tavern. Hmmmm. Since everything happened behind that car without contact it just continued on.
Updating:

Rams are made in Mexico and the plant just shut down. There is one truck in transit that meets his needs. Apparently only one dealer in Canada has a Ford equivalent to his needs and they have three, in British Columbia.

I think a truck coming from Mexico to Canada via the USA should be considered "In bond" but eating Cheetos could affect the call on that. We're talking 25% on around $150K. Insurance won't like that.

Then there's the usual insurance stipulations that say you don't get coverage for physio until you've used up your own coverage.

Drive / Ride safe. Idiots are driving the vehicles. Psychopaths are running the insurance companies.

Oh yeah, he's paying $500 a week for a rental. I don't know how long the insurer will keep that up.
