Car Deal TikTok/Youtuber

I’ve been dealing with sales people over the last month or so and it’s insane.

‘This is our price, zero negotiation’
‘Ok cool. Thanks for your time’

1-2 days later from diff dealers:

‘Well why don’t you come back maybe we can reach a number’
‘I’m sure we can get you more for the GTI if you come back in’
‘We can def reduce the interest rate if you’re super serious from 9% down to 5%’

It has been an exercise in frustration. But I’m honest where I want to be numbers wise.

The numbers for my car range about 6k between dealers.

Best line:
‘Oh so you came here just to check our price on your car?’
‘No…I have 5 Hyundai dealerships within a 10min drive from my house. Why would I come to Orangeville to see THAT car?’

2nd best:

‘Ok looks like we’re too far apart on the number. Appreciate your time but a new Maverick seems to be out of my range so I’ll focus on the used market’

They are incorrect on the accident front. Ther have been lots of instances of minor (and not minor) damage pre delivery that is fixed and owner is never told. Technically dealer is supposed to disclose if damage is over 3k or two adjacent panels are damaged but I'm sure many dodge that obligation or bury it in the paperwork.
You're right, it happens on new cars also...but much less rare.

Another dealer told me I may as well set my money on fire by buying a QC car, after I mentioned that an acquaintance (@PrivatePilot) just bought an IONIQ5 in QC.

'Oh he's so going to regret that! You should never ever ever buy cars from out of province. You're just asking for trouble. I feel so bad for him'

I'm quite sure I started laughing.

Meanwhile, check their inventory and you'll probably find a bunch of vehicles that they brought in from qc :/. The real story is likely they are supposed to make money on the spread, not you.

I've bought a lot of cars, the number of times I've litteraly told a salesguy " I'm sorry , there is nothing unique enough about this vehicle for me to spend anymore time in this conversation, I'm going to go now" , to be followed out of the building and called numerous times to "come back , we can put a deal together " , sorry it's a F150 , they build another one every 9 minutes.

Thats said , my best buying experiences , Ford Bronco @ Kennedy in Oakville , new one incoming , heres what its got , this is the price we would like. Could I get XX for my trade? yes, ok done.
BMW Oakville , no trade, what would you like to offer, I ask saleman; you right a number on a piece of paper that will buy that car right now and I write you a cheque. he does , I do , so easy .

worst was helping my daughter , she goes to see a Honda dealer and they offer her a very good number , she says I am borrowing money from my dad, I cant sign anything but hes back in town in a day , we will be back in 48 hrs. We go back 24hrs later , song dance act, it was month end we needed to score, you cant have that deal today , wonk wonk . kinda sleezy, but thats the business model for many of these places

Vehicle sales in a small town is such a different experience.

One dealership of each brand means you either gotta be prepared to go out-of-town to get a good deal/experience, or suck it up and deal with sh!tty salespeople/price for the convenience.

Thankfully, I have a lot of time on my hands. Plus, once you establish you are one of *those* customers, word gets around quickly and the bullsh!t gets dropped fast. Everybody knows everybody here.

Small town economics.

Unfortunately, A LOT of people let themselves get bullied by pushy salespeople, that's why they can continually get away with such tactics.

Truckloads of EV’s leave QC headed for Ontario daily. The dealer we bought from even offered to ship our car if wanted as it’s so common that all dealers know the process.

Ontario dealers continue to spread FUD about it as when consumers do it directly vs through them the lose the easy tens of thousands of dollars in profit.

As I’ve said many times, would I buy a QC car from a sketch corner lot dealer? Nope. But a 1 owner trade in from a big mainstream dealer like our Ioniq? Yep. And I’ll gladly save that $10k.

Went through this about 6 months ago and developed a disdain for car salesmen. The entire industry in this country is filled with liars and con artists, from the big dealerships to the scummy small places, they are all the same.

Ive had it both way , very polished and dedicated saleman and complete weasels . And I have spent the bulk of my life as a salesguy in one industry or another , so I know weasels .
On the other side , dealing with young guys coming in with a -122 credit score and almost uninsurable that want to take selfies in a car they couldnt afford in the next 35yrs would be exhausting .

I'm actually tempted to email the salesman in Orangeville that I liked the car at...it's nothing special, but they offered me 20k for my GTI (where everyone else is in the 24-26k range as a trade).

I'm not in love with THAT car, but may just toss out 'hey, if you're still selling that thing my number is $ all in. Take it or not? Offer stays valid until I buy a car'.

Although with more thought given to it...an IONIQ5 is making more sense for our family, as we need space...and the Maverick doesn't seem to be in the cards currently, even though I've expanded my search to 500km.

VERY rare to find an XLT + Lux Package + 4k tow in not black/white.

That’s the thing. Almost every dealer I’ve gone to has a massive inventory. They just know someone will come in an hour and buy the thing I didn’t.

Wilson’s in Guelph was great and I was honest with the salesman about budget and what I’m looking for.

Don’t care about how they get to $200/month on a 5 year with my GTI as trade.

Their best offer was $220/month on 84 months when I told them no to their first offer. They were shocked someone would even counter.

When I was there on a Saturday morning I counted about 30 people. Place is a zoo.

They were recently bought by a large corp that has 8-10 dealerships in Ontario alone.

That is what's been happening the last few yrs, They know someone will buy it if you don't. No haggling prices anymore

You could put a bucket of dirt on the internet and someone will buy it.

I've been watching this guys content for weeks, wowzer.

Talk about "What we've got here is a failure to communicate". It's one thing if you have an established business relationship, but this bozo's just making assumptions about his internet fame. What he should have done is establish the relationship with the dealer's management first, then talk numbers. I was on the dealer's for the 8 minutes I watched. And I hate dealers.
