But he didn't. He literally put his desire to be vaccinated in front of the lives of 100 people who were living as a reasonably isolated population until he dropped in. For that level of violating the rules including the planning and deceit involved, $500 is grossly inadequate. Having him pay for all charter flights required to vaccinate all remote reserves in the Yukon seems reasonable.

Hell, I think I would be tempted to do so also if I could afford it.

Had a frustrating discussion yesterday with a colleague... "we didn't tell anyone but we went to Europe during the lockdown...I know we weren't supposed to, but it's not illegal, and we isolated on each side for 14 days. We really missed our parents and they missed the grandkids. We were very careful and we just finished out our quarantine last week.' I couldn't believe it.

They know it's the wrong thing to do, but as it's technically legal, and within the rules....they can justify it. Mind you these are people that have the funds to quarantine and take a month or two off work with no negative effects.

This maggot and his wife, who's an actress apparently, are now enjoying unemployment as he is no longer the CEO of Great Canadian Gaming Corp. and I doubt casting agents will be knocking down his wife's door with offers of work after this highly visible faux-pas. I expect, like many of the other high-flying knuckleheads who have done stupid sh*t during Covid, this guy's likely got a decent parachute clause in his employment contract. He's pretty young though and with his current lifestyle, a big payout isn't gonna last all that long. He may be well connected but he'll be toxic for awhile!

In terms of your associate's leisure travel activity, apparently JT and company are mulling over a complete ban on non essential international travel. Mind you, he's very good at mulling, not so much on taking action. Most Provincial Premiers are after him to get this done though so we can always hope?

It'll give him something to do and if he wants, he can give them to his daughters.

Does this qualify as essential? Probably not, but it suits what I think is appropriate.

Then I think about hospital workers from the doctors down to the cleaners that avoid their families when coming home from work, some to the point of living in RV's.

What is the right thing to do?

As far as the trip to Europe goes it was wrong but if all precautions were taken does a "No harm, no foul" result make it OK. Does it encourage others to bypass the recommendations but the copy cats don't take as much care?

The economics make a difference. MP's friend has the coin to do it safely with multiple quarantines. Someone with lesser means would copy but skimp on the quarantines.

The decisions would be easier if there was better example and leadership at the top.

I would love to visit my uncle but I wouldn't fly. So three days driving with minimal (but still there) contact with the outside world. I could do a 14 day at home quarantine but IMO it is negated as soon as I stop for gas or use a washroom. Fourteen day quarantine in MB, visit for a few days, living in his bubble. No visits with other relatives not in his bubble. Drive home and evaluate if I had any worse exposure en route than a trip to the grocery store here.

I have an invitation to visit New Zealand. I can't drive there and the airline situation gives me the creeps.

Apparently that church has 400 to 600 people out on sundays not wearing masks. This is like the free speech arguments. You cant get in trouble for spreading your message (assuming it will not cause harm) but you can and should be limited on how you are spreading your message if that places society at risk. Literally every other church in the province has figured out how to balance the message and the spread. Its whack-a-mole. Poke your head up and you should expect to get hit.

It's always complicated when you don't want to do your job. The answer is that the white folk should be treated the same as the Muslim congregation. WTF is the difference. A gathering is a gathering.

This is the problem with not having a country wide / federal lockdown on travellers. Someone can always 'justify' the 'essential' part of the trip. I got into a big argument where he was complaining his friend was charged $300CAD to test their family in Poland before returning to Canada. I told him I agree with it, and they shouldn't have gone.

Him: your buddy's mother's funeral isn't essential?
Me: to him it is. To you and me, it's not. But everyone has their own definition. Your friends went for what reason?
Him: crickets
Me: exactly. Majority of trips aren't essential, we just like to justify it like that to ourselves.

I wish the gov't actually locked down, put in 3-5k payments on the hotel quarantines, and we could slow down the spread.

There was an article yesterday....b/w 100-150 planes came into the country with CONFIRMED COVID-19 cases last week....WTF! That means up to 150x200 (let's assume planes aren't full and some are smaller) = 30,000 potentially exposed carriers came into the country....no wonder we can't get a grip on this. Even at 5-10% of that...that's 1500-3000 people. And then multiply that by people not following protocol...and here we are.

They can't ban you from travelling. It's against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

They can make it very expensive or a pain in the ass to do so however.

Just like they can’t ban you from Canada once you’re at the border if you’re a PR or citizen.

But....not having a COVID test done with a negative result the airline won’t let you on, and you’re nowhere near the Canadian border.

Like you said...they can't stop you from doing something. But they can sure as hell make it expensive and inconvenient. Usually I disagree with that approach, but not here.

As for @nobbie48 I fully see your point and wish it was simpler to meet up with your family. This is tough for the elder generations, and especially the ones that are alone. My parents are getting hit with it hard, we see each other in front of the house as much as we can. But with the weather and winter around, that's very seldom and the kids don't get out of the car. But I see this approach everywhere. Kids and grandkids show up, chill on the front lawn as the grandparents are on the porch looking happy, but sad.

Hmmm....I don't know the answer but I'll ask...since the feds won't (or can't) close the borders, can each province mandate that if you land at YYZ or any airport you MUST go into provincial quarantine? Can Doug not gets his hotel buddies to put up a few hundred people? Get the incoming people to pay for it under Provincial Order? The feds control the border and airport....but once you step foot outside of those doors...aren't you within provincial regulations?
