Re: Well, this will help the motorcycle image in Toronto!
Well, I certainly wouldn't condone, ANYONE, drive into a crowd of riders, regardless of what the group of riders were doing. As for the comment it was a small percentage of riders who were being reckless. I agree, however, this type of activity wouldn't go on, if those who weren't "participating" didn't jin the ride to begin with and therefore give the few security in numbers, as well as an audience. I would hope that if anyone, hit a rider, in a road rage type incident they are dealt with severely by the courts.
Does anyone here believe, that if there were only say 10 of the hardcore group, they would have acted in the same fashion? Of course not, they rely on other riders showing up and by there sheer numbers allow these fools to block traffic and pull off their "stunts" Which, using the term stunts, brings disrepute to those who do stunt in a proper and safe manner, (IE a secluded and empty parking lot).
I could see the government, bringing in regulations that force the manufacturers to install a fail safe system, which can't be disabled. This system would allow Law Enforcement to remotely disable a bike, similar to what they do with the "bait cars". it would allow the rider, (with their momentum), to get over to the side of a road, but not permit them to continue to operate the bike. How quickly would the "show" have ended, if with the push of a button, all the bikes in that group were disabled at once, from the chopper above. It would also eliminate the need for ANY bike pursuits
Given the draconian measures of s172, I could see the law stating the police could then simply move in and impound all the bikes, You get your bike back when you present yourself to the local station to claim your PON. If you claim you weren't operating the bike then you don't get it back till the operator presents themselves. This would also recover all stolen bikes which were being used. Of course any bikes without plates or insurance also get those charges tacked on.
Now initially, there "may" be one or two who were riding along and get caught up in the pack. But, after this tactic was employed once, I would venture that if your cruising down the highway and you see a group approaching "innocent" riders, would quickly pull to the roadside and let it go by.
