Niagara Region Jobs?

It's easier to get a job when you have a job in case @backmarkerducati's post was tl;dr
Well if op didn't read that well written post, with nothing but good advice, then op is a lost cause imo. That's the type of advice some of us never had, and/or some of us ignored.

I think the OP should not only take the time to read it, but memorize it as it is spot on.

Start with an education, trade whatever and finish it. Then you at least have some hope. You CAN go without, but very rarely is it rewarded/works out in your favour.

Lakehead has some great rates, have to live in Thunder Bay but that's the trade off. If you can afford to live in Niagara you can afford there.

The only course worth taking if you want to stay in Niagara is the one for blackjack/poker dealers.

How about something in the whine industry?

IMO a person who quits courses gets labeled a quitter. OK for the lower echelons but no employer is going to fast track someone up the ladder if they think they'll quit when the going gets tough.

If you realize a course isn't for you either switch out immediately or stay to the end even if you never use it.

I know someone in NF and their paycheck would double if they moved to TO. Their SO has a good job and housing is cheap so they do OK.

I agree...quitting a job before you have another one lined up, and then complaining about being unemployed...well...forgive me for not feeling sorry for you. I've had **** jobs before. I said a lot of nasty **** in my head, threw invisible daggers into peoples backs, but in the end, smiled and did the job. And when I quit because I had another job lined up, I did it tactfully and politely, because you never know if the person interviewing you at that dream job down the road somewhere is a relative of the person you potentially told off at that **** job on your way out the door.

Karma is a *****.

(Edit, wow, stars everywhere. I apparently have a potty mouth this evening! ;))

Did read the post, was at the auto show and couldn't respond. Despite what a lot of people seem to think, I'm not a stupid person - impulsive, sure, but not stupid. For all the people talking about me whining, I really don't see where I come across as whiny. I've got money to support my self in the downtime, and I have some job offers currently on the table, I'm just looking into any opportunities. I don't want to rush into another job with high expectations. I would rather take some time, do some research, and find a job that I will enjoy, that can pay the bills and keep me occupied. It's a lot to ask, but that's why you do it while you're still young, isn't it?

I don't need pity from anyone - I asked for suggestions and advice from people whom I've listened to before, and who I generally trust. These people have been through their lives, and they know what mistakes they've made, so if rather ask them than try everything myself. I haven't complained about being unemployed at all - I still have money to live on for some time to come. I do welcome opinions and criticism, but please at least try to keep it related to something I've actually said.

Fair enough, my apologies, but I just can't get past quitting one job before having another lined up, no matter how crappy it was. If you put some money aside in preparation, that's a good thing, but I still suggest that lots of people have lots of good advice here, and a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the tree. That money will run out eventually.

@NiagaraRider did not mean that you didn't read it. Just saying I hope you are not the type that dismisses good advice. I hope it all works out for you.

There is a casino at Niagara. Ever thought of male prostituting around there like Vegas? Tax free money... just sayin'... it could be worst you could be Sitel.

Some work out in Durham right now. Even more so in a few months. Tough work though. Reach out if you move to this end of the province. I can get you a job. And if you survive it, it pays well.

Edit: I should mention that not a lot of people make it past the first few weeks. But it's one of the only jobs someone with no education and minimal applicable skill sets can get a survivable wage.

Same...have an open position in Vaughan. Manufacturing plant operator. Pays good. 4 days of 10h per week & 3 day weekend always unless you want to work overtime which is available.

You've piqued my curiosity. Not that I'm looking, but....what's the work?

Hard scape installation and community development. We grade and build the terrain that they put schools, public parks, government buildings and the like on. We also get hired to do land reformation and rejuvenation. I like it, left a stodgy desk job for it.

Cool. It's the physical part that I'm guessing a lot of the fallouts don't manage well?

The factory farm (think apple orchards and such) employers suffer the same sort of issues - people get hired, discover the job is actually physically demanding (and, gasp, outdoors...rain or shine!) and they don't last a week. And then the companies are forced to hire temporary foreign workers because they can't get anyone to actually do the work. And then people get upset about "them foreigners taking our jobs!'. Vicious circle.

maybe people feel they want a bigger reward for the amount of work, entitled to it or not, if you are able to get the same pay for less work or less bullcrap what would you do? t cost will go up but things would balance out. If those foreign workers weren't available I suspect wages would go up for the jobs people aren't enthusiastic in doing making them more attractive to people. it's capitalism, if a resource is at a premium the cost will go up. sure the producI've seen quite a few people walk away from call centre jobs because management tends to be ludicrous and the people calling in think they don't have to treat the phone monkey with any decency. 20 years back a call centre was an ok job, but since companies don't really care about their customers they outsourced the jobs to india and other countries where the costs are lower.
