Good alternative to Icon helmets?

Yeh, just watched Revzilla review on it. They showed how fast & easy it is to swap visors and pointed out it has cutouts already inside the shell for communication system which is nice, as you don't have to cut things or have the parts put pressure on your face. Will look around if I can find a Vortex to try on and prob pick one up from Canada Moto
GP in Whitby was liquidating a bunch for less than half price. I know they weren't solid colors but some had cool graphics. I would call them to see. For me a large bell fit just as comfy as the large shoei

Bell Vortex is basically an rs 1 or star helmet in a poly chassis as apposed to carbon fibre or fiberglass shell like higher model. They share same design and internals . I don't know any other snell approves Helmet that is track approved with all those features for $200.

Very true. Vortex, Qualifier, RS and so forth look highly similar with slight differences on where the vents are. A matte black Vortex is going for $152.99 + TAX & free shipping from Canada Moto... Good deal, I got my Alliance for $160 + tax ($200 something total)... But damn there visors are pricey at $60 bucks a pop + tax....

You can always buy extra side covers and that will make your visor change significantly faster. They offer covers for all the icon helmets.
I own 2 icon helmets as well...the alliance dark and the airmada future suture and ive got a clear and a dark smoke visor for both. I'm thinking of doing the same thing and just buying extra side covers.

The Shark and Scorpion helmets I have are both easy. The Shark helmets take about 5 seconds.

Really almost anything.

I had this helmet and for me personally not to crazy about it. Yes used have to buy the side covers which kinda of sucks....the attached to system can break though. ... switching to bell made the visor swap so easy....I think it was an AGV helmet that fit really good but the visor system was too busy and kinda of annoying to swap....

The youngins probably don't even remember Jofa. It was already on its way out when I started playing as a little kid in the early 90's...

Those were the good ol' days of DR, Cooper, Koho...only brands left are Bauer/CCM and even they've been bought out now for a while.
I was sporting a groovy set of Lange skates with my Jofa back in the day

HJC RPHA-10 bang for the buck very hard to beat and one of the easiest helmets I have ever owned for visor swaps.

Is Jofa one of them new-fangled companies? I don't remember them at all.

I do. Wasn't Dominik Hasek wearing Jofa? Maybe not, but he still looked stupid.

Check your helmet on this http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ before you buy.

Wasn't impressed with the wife's HJC lid so it was decommissioned after the first time I tried to ride with it (caught out late with only a dark visor on mine)... destroyed it after I checked it out on Sharp site!

I prefer higher end helmets, like the quality that comes with them but I still check them all on that site.

X2

Heavy *** helmet

If changing the shield easily is your own prerequisite then you won't have much issues with either the Shoei or Bell, I own both and I can change it in seconds, plus with Bell you can get the Transition visor and never have to change it. Do not buy Arai, I find it is a PITA to change shields.

If you are looking for other qualities, I find the shoei to be the best overall at a reasonable price... but opinions are like ********, everyone has one.

Also make sure to check the date on it, you might want some day soon do track days and there are some requirements on dates if you want to use the helmet (or maybe is just racing, I don't know).

I've had a Scorpion mechanism come apart in my hand when I was trying to switch visors in the field. I was easy to put back together, but I didn't expect it to come apart like that. Other than that, I like their helmets.

I love my scorpion exo 1100. It was my first helmet but I dropped it and replaced it with a shoei (meh) ..I still wear it even though I know I shudnt

Actually they are still around, but not for helmets (at least not in North America).
They were bought out by Reebok, but their name is still on those products - usually the higher end shin/elbow/shoulder pads.

Unless you dropped it with a human head inside of it, instead of it just falling waist height off a bike or out of your hands, you should be fine.

It was on the handle bar and the bike fell on top of it (I know what a noob) styrofoam damage on the inside, can't really argue with that..my next helmet will Prbly be another scorpion tho, let's see what next year brings :)
