Most of the stigma about suicide seems to come from religion. If you off yourself you go to hell and will never see your loved ones again.
The insurance problem comes from people offing themselves via an "Accident". I knew someone who was severely injured by a suicide attempt that chose an on coming car instead of a bridge abutment.
I was once offered $500.00 by someone to "Put them out of their misery". I don't know if they were just venting but I don't need anything that bad.
