Honda Canada has the cbr250r for 300 bucks more than a grom, 800 if you want abs.

Really? That would settle it for me. I really like the Grom, but it's not a good value the way it's currently priced.

There's also the Sym Wolf 150 that is made in Taiwan. I saw one downtown it even has a tach and centrestand. It's small but for an urban core it's probably just fine.

We used these in Motorcycle safety training here in London, at Fanshawe. CBR125R (First gen), Sym Wolf 150 and a Honda CRF that was carbed and looked similar to the Sym. It didn't look like an offroad bike but I think it had CRF150 moniker or something similar.

What was your riding impression of the Wolf?

For those who might like reading a TU250X and Wolf comparison, this article is well written with pictures: http://canadamotoguide.com/2013/07/29/suzuki-tu250x-and-sym-wolf-150-comparo/

How tall are you?

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I'm 6 foot and the only issue I had while riding the from was the bars hit my knee caps at steering lock. I found it much more fun than the cbr125. :)

This or the CRF250L would be my choice.

I did 800km with a couple of guys mounted on the cbr250s and they had ridden to Moncton NB from Halifax the day before. Brilliant little around town bikes, great handling IMHO.

I still like the tu as a 250, but the cbrs are nice bikes, the grom is something you buy to put on your boat so you have transport on land where ever you dock...

The crf250l is 1800 bucks more than the grom...

OP, what are you looking for?

Is this your first bike? Is insurance a problem? Will you ever get in the 400-series highways?

yes, its my first bike.insurance is not a problem but both bikes are priced pretty much the same with the misfit being cheaper by about $50. No 400 series highways planned...

Everybody on this board hates scooters (except me and a couple of others). And I mean, hate them!

But maybe another choice for you would be to buy a used 250cc scooter (Vespa) that can do up to 140 kph, therefore highway capable, and give you endless pleasurable hours of riding... :p ... and sell it in a couple of years for close to what you paid for it...

Go and price a used Vespa.....

Sounds like you're looking for something similar to what I was last fall.

I considered to GROM but realized that it was a bike I would likely have only temporarily and didnt like the thought of buying a temporary bike new.

I liked Ninja/CBR 250s but didnt think that I would benefit from them over a CBR125 for my use.

CBR125 - I came very close to buying a 2011 for $1800. As new condition with barely any mileage.

But I ended up buying my WR250X and would also have bought a DRZ400SM. I chose the supermotos because 1) Theyre an utter riot in the city, 2) Insurance is less, 3) upright for visibility, 4) handle like mad, 5) Geared for the speeds I ride, 6) while not ideal, they tolerate highways just fine when I need to go them, and lastly 7) Resale is fast.

No regrets my end on choice but I do think that a bigger displacement supermoto is in my future (not because the WR250 isnt the perfect city bike because I believe that it is, but just because).

Yes, they aren't cheap, I see some in Kijiji at $4 to $5 K... but why pay $3,000 +++ for a Grom that can barely reach 100 kph?

An option is to pay more for the vespa but you also get more performance. And with the vespa, the OP can get in the highway if he is ever ready or willing.

Just an option...

Yeah but have you seen the price of scarves these days? OP would need a bundle of them to stay up to date with the latest fashion trends. Can't ride a Vespa without your scarf trailing in the wind.

Yes you can. It is perfectly OK to replace the scarf with a sweater tied around the neck, as long as it is in pastel colours...

:p
