I put 88,000 km on a single. Is insurance a factor?
 
Triple is a treat....
 
parallel twin...back bone of the old British Bike industry!
 
Depends on what is involved with the daily ride........I can think of half a dozen different configuration I'd prefer.......

Single, V twin, Parallel twin, boxer twin, in line 4, v 4 just to start.........

In my mind I was thinking mostly around town, in the city, with maybe 30 minutes of highway a week

Then a little thumper or twin. Skinny tires, light to medium weight. Can take a passenger to a movie. Park it any where and don't care.
 
Alls you need is one.
I rode a single to work for several years. I loved it.
Was a real stop light sleeper.

I love my triple Downtown and on the highway where I had a lot of fun with a smaller single downtown but it fell short on the highway (for me anyway)
